I've been wanting to own a turntable ie. technics SL-1200MK2PK to complement my system but am reluctant to buy one as I've read that it doesn't have a pre-amp and may not work with "modern" AV receivers. I really don't know what a pre-amp does. Also, I am not familiar with the necessary components that I need to buy for a turntable so that it could start playing vinyls....

I own an Intimus HT hybid with with a bravus 8D...i have an onkyo sr-606 receiver
