I have an exclusively aperion setup with 532 bookshelves, 533-vac and the new 4bp bipole surrounds. The problem that I'm running into is that my sub is not behaving well with the system. When I first set it up it took over an hour to coax it to play anything from the receiver. The second time I went to run it I had to go through the receiver to play with it again. Just today I turned it on to use it and I am not getting any output.

I checked that the rca cable is connected to the LFE input of the sub and the LFE output of the receiver. I had a few succesful and fun runs with the subwoofer but if it does not seem to hold state (as in: if I turn it back on it will not output). I do not change the receiver settings in-between usage.

Findings:

- If the sub is set to "auto" the receiver/sub will not output anything even if an LFE signal is present in the audio stream

- If the sub is set to "on" the receiver/sub may output a signal, but that takes some fiddling with settings in the receiver to get the sub to be recognized

- Coaxing the receiver means: Turning speakers A and B on/off, switching the lfe output to sub/fronts/sub+fronts and back to sub, sneezing...

I'm not really sure if this is a receiver issue or if it is the sub acting up. When I increase the volume on the sub I hear the impulse pressure. However I have increased the volume on the sub a few times and heard nothing. Any thoughts, comments? I'd like to know if anyone has the same receiver setup to the most recent aperion subs. Either way, I'm a little frustrated and considering a return.

Gad

Intimus S10 Subwoofer Volume Level

Hi. I'm relatively a newbie to the home theater system world. I'm setting up my Intimus S10 subwoofer for the first time (I purchased it from someone who recently lost their job). My receiver is a Pioneer Elite 92-TXH.

My problem is that the subwoofer only produces sound when the volume level is at its highest setting. I've done everything I can to make adjustments by tweaking both the subwoofer and receiver settings. Am I missing something? Is there some additional things I need to do to make this work? I tried to do some research on this on the internet and nothing seems to work. I'm wondering if something needs repaired vs being a setting issue.

Jeremy

4c Help

Hi,

New to home audio and just recently purchased the 4C and 4Ts a couple weeks ago. I notice that the 4C is "quieter" than the 4Ts when playing movies. I've played around with the settings on my DVD player and have increased the loudness of the 4C over the towers by 2dcb but I still feel like dialogue from the center is quieter than the the other two.

My receiver is set to 6 channel discrete input, I don't have an onscreen display to change the dcb level of the speakers individually in that mode except for a turnable knob for the center's volume in the back (which doesn't add much volume).

Does anyone have suggestions? there which may partially block the LF tower sound field as well. The
floorplan shows the cabinet flush in the corner of the cutout but it's
not in the pic. That would be corrected by just moving away from the
door and flush with the cutout corner about a foot and a half or so.

I'm not as concerned about the rears. Planning on just putting those on stands in the location in the floorplans. However, is where I have the sub a good location?

Thanks for any help!!

Need more help with surround speakers.........

I am trying to set up a perfect home theater in the not so perfect room. One of the reviewers on the 5B page commented that this was the "perfect height." Question is, do you think he or she means for front left and right speakers... or for surround speakers?

Honestly, this would be ear height sitting in my "lazy boy" chairs , and not a bit higher. I always believed that surrounds should be a few inches above ear height, but if not, a nice cherry-stained plant stand (mission style) to match my furniture would be more esthetic :)

Secondly, I think I'll find it difficult to keep these speakers (5Bs) a "foot away" from walls, furniture, etc. as the Aperion folks recommend in one of the site's setup recommendation pages. Any thoughts about this issue? Keep in mind they would function as surrounds, not fronts.

As always, thanks! I've bought my 5C and 10D is on the way. So far, so good! Thanks.

frenchmon

Wiring Configuration for Bravus 12D and an old Receiver

Just bought and set up a 12D Subwoofer. Fabulous piece of audio equipment and a beautiful piece of furniture. Although I have it up and running I have a problem with the wiring configuration.

I have an older Sony receiver, that I would like to get a few more months of use out of while I figure out what I’m going to upgrade to. As I have a Home Theatre System in another room, I will be using this for 2-channel music listening only. It has no pre-amp line out for a sub and uses the old style spring-loaded clips for wiring bindings. The Aperion Set Up and Configuration Help Page gives me two options for my set up.

A. I can combine the L and R main speaker wires with the L and R High Input wires from the sub. The combination of the two wires are too thick to fit in the bindings. So this option won’t work for me.

B. The other option is to hook up the main speaker wires to the Speaker A bindings and the Sub wires to the Speaker B bindings. This receiver allows me to run A and B together. For whatever reason, when I run A and B together, the volume is cut by more than half vs running Speaker A only. If I run the system at 50% volume (on the dial) I get about the same amount of sound as I get on Speaker A only with the dial set at 15% or 20%. I also seem to lose some clarity when on A and B together.

I hate to go out and spend money on new receiver right now just to replace it again in year when I'm ready to upgrade. Any ideas?

Receuver with Aperion Intimus 5B

Guys,

Can anyone suggest a receiver for the Aperion Intimus 5B Harmony SD speaker sustem? location for the sub? hahaha, ok let's not dwell on that info we may not be doing that...)

The couch along the rear wall can pull out 3-4 feet away from the wall to provide distance between the 5B rears and the listener...

Ideas?

My most pressing question is --> how to place the rears?

Secondarily, see anything else worth commenting on?

Room is 15 wide x 17 deep. The left side of the room (wall with the arcade) has a wide sliding glass door.

thanks...

Front of room:

(during listening, the right armoir door would be closed... while the left would be open to allow access to the stereo equipment and for the left/front 5B)

Back of room (air conditioner is the BACK):

I'll mainly use these for movies. But music should sound good too...

Surround Speaker Placement 5DB

I am trying to decide where to mount my 5DB surround speakers. As you can see int he picture, one wall presents a challenge for me. The 5DB does not fit in the space between the back wall and the window (sad face) so is my next best option is to mount it on the wall above the mantle where it is sitting currently or is the back wall the best choice? The side wall will place the speaker about 3 feet in front of my ear and 1 - 2 feet above my ear when sitting on the couch which is against the back wall. Any help and insight anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. So should I do this? The stands are 100%compressed wood approx. 3/4" thick. The top of the stands supporting the speakers are flat and roughly the same size as the speaker's footprint. The cross section of the support is square with a channel running the length of the stand that is 3.5" along each side. So the channel is long and narrow. If I remember correctly it was called the Cinema system (532LR, 422LR, S12 sub, 532VAC). Everything sounds great and I love the speakers, but over the past month or so I'm getting a buzz out of the 422s. It's not a constant buzz, in fact it's pretty random. Sometimes followed by a small 'pop' but usually it's not.

I'm an amateur (at best) at setting up speakers so I figure it's something I've done wrong with the wiring. Does anybody have any ideas on what might be causing this?

I have a couple of ideas what might be the problem, but maybe it's something totally different. My thoughts are:

1) The wires running to the speakers are too close together. I've run them basically on top of each other along the wall.

2) The wires running to the speakers are too long. About 9' in length.

3) Those missing screws were really important. When I was setting up the speakers I dropped and lost 2 of the mini-screws that connect the banana plugs to the wire, so each of the back speakers has 1 screw holding the plug in place/making a connection.

Could it be one of these things? Something else? Thanks so much for your help.

New System Problem - No Surround Sound

My Aperion's showed up yesterday and I got them hooked up this morning.

I have a Yamaha RX-V1800 AVR. Aperion supplied 5T's for the front, 5C for the center, 5B's for the surrounds and a Bravus 10D subwoofer.

After hooking everything up I ran the Yamaha auto-setup mostly to see how close it would get things. When it ran through the first time, it "saw" all the speakers except the surround right. The speaker wiring in my house is beyond weird.I have vaulted ceilings that go up to 16 feet; someone, a long time ago, ran speaker wire up there (18 gauge).

My first thought was I had the polarity reversed, so I switched it.
