Could the Emotiva XPA-5 overload my Aperions?

I recently received my Aperions (6Ts, 6C, 5DBs, 5Bs, & 12D) and they're wonderful. Now I want to give them the power they deserve and supplement the Yamaha RX-V1900 with the Emotiva XPA-5 to run the front/side 5 speakers (the back 2x 5Bs can stay on the 1900).

My concern is potentially overloading the Aperions, spec'd at handling up to 300 watts.

The Emotiva XPA-5 has details on its 8-ohms and 4-ohms ratings, but not 6-ohms, so first question is if anyone knows how the XPA-5 rates to run at 6-ohms? I assume it's somewhere between the two, but so far my searches haven't turned anything up.

My second concern is if I hit the 'Pure Direct' button on the 1900 and the XPA-5 drops down to powering just 2-channels will the power spike over the 6T's handling capabilities and damage my new Aperions?

Only goes up to the 607 so far. Seems like the number of HDMI inputs has jumped considerably and the backs area getting cleaner with the loss of so many inputs (S-video...etc).

Receiver not taller than 6.5in with 4 HDMI? Sony ES STRDA2400ES or Pioneer VSX 1019AH-K

Looking for a receiver no taller than 6.5 in.

Looking for 4 HDMI inputs.

I have found the Sony ES STRDA2400ES which is a year or so old which is being discounted heavily online.

I have also found the Pioneer VSX 1019AH-K. This is new receiver that has gotten excellent reviews for a 500 receiver.

Would you go with an older Sony ES line or a new Pioneer (not Elite) receiver?

i currently have the Onkyo tx sr605 which is ok but i wouldn't recommend it do to popping noises and no pre-outs!!! which is must for the upgrade i want to do ( add an Emotiva xpa-3 with Aperions 6ts as L/R and 6c ) the components in the ( ) are sure shots im just sketchy about the receiver i should use something not over 500 that can decode DTS-MASTER AUDIO and dolby true HD with off course pre-outs for L/R and center the (cheaper the better )

any suggestions as to a change of the amp/ receiver con-fig i had in mind that would possibly be better ? EX: pre-amp

the receiver im thinking of getting is the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K also the onkyo shuts off over 70 anything under 70 is just starting to get loud enouht to fully enjoy movies and music

onkyo tx sr605 keeps going into standby

i purchased the 4ts and the onkyo tx sr605 to power it but every time i go above 70 the receiver goes into standby mode with a blinking red light

also when i go into setup mode theres no option for the Impedance

Amplifier question

I am putting together a new system. I am considering the Onkyo 807 receiver. I want to run speakers in 2 rooms (7.1 in the family room, but just 2.1 in the kitchen). The receiver can do that -- but Onkyo tells me I need a pre-amp (or an amp?) to drive the speakers in the second room. What brands of amp/pre-amp should I look at? And is there a way to control the volume of the second room speakers easily?

A friend's system

A friend of mine wants to hook up a home theater system. He has a Sony LCD so he's OK there. He currently has a DVD player and his cable receiver plugged directly into the Sony via HDMI inputs.

For speakers I'm clearly pointing him toward Aperion. His room is odd. The area that has the TV and will have the other components is about 15x10 with 15 foot ceilings. But, it opens up directly (no wall) into the kitchen/eating area that's about 20x20. It's also open on the side to the living room and a long hallway. His wife doesn't want towers so he'll be using bookshelf speakers for the front (I'm thinking 5B's). For a sub I'm thinking the Bravus 10. There's nowhere to mount rears - there's only a wall on one side of the room and his wife doesn't want anything hanging down from the ceiling.

The big question is the AVR. He said about 75% of the time he'll be watching TV (HD cable). The rest of the time he'll watch movies and some music. He has no plans to upgrade to a BluRay player in the near future.

AVR recommendations (there's no budget, but it's also not going to be an issue)? Rears?

I HAVE A CHOICE OVER THE ONKYO TX SR606 OR THE ONKYO TX SR607 the receiver will mostly be used for movies, shows, and music

i can get the Onkyo tx sr606 for around 265 while the onkyo tx sr607 for around 320 ill be running 4ts for L/R centers and a 5c center channel with 5bs as surrounds what should i go for?

oh yeah i forgot the Onkyo tx sr607 HDMI out doesn't work but i dont see how i will be using it anyways i wont be using the up conversion

My receiver has a selector, the L/R are 6ohm the center is 8ohm. I set the receiver to 6ohm thinking I was matching the lowest resistence? Let me know thanks Donnie

Best Receiver for the Money

I just purchased basically the Intimus 5B Fusion SD package from Aperion, and haven't even hooked it up yet. We have an old receiver that will work for now, but I'm sure we'll want to upgrade soon. Speakers will most often be used for Movies & Music - no gaming.

The system is going in our basement which is long and skinny, about 10x20 with the tv on the short wall. Seating area pretty much splits the length in half.

I've scanned through other threads in this forum, and it seems like Onkyo, Denon and the Pioneer Elite set ups will be my best bet - does this sound about right to everyone out there?

Yamaha RX-V665 with Aperions

I'm considering this 7.1 setup:

Fronts - 5B's
(powered separately from pre outs - Adcom 100W/ch 20-20,000 8 ohms {150W @ 4 ohms})

Center - 5C
Surr - 4BP's
Rears - 4B's
Sub - 12D

The living room is about 15x15 (split foyer house, so a little open)
I see the sensitivity is 84-86 dB for the sets that I want to run off the 665.
I know that Yamaha has "cheaped-out" a little on this model's power suppy, and rating @ 1 kHz, but I'm thinking that it will still power the center, surr, and rears at a moderate to high volume, especially if I use an external amp for the fronts.

I use a completely separate 2-channel stereo system for serious music listening so the HT is really for movies and TV only.

Anyone have experience with a similar level of power and efficiency? (I know I can order them and try them first.)
I really think Emotiva UMC-1 and XPA-5 are in my future, so this may be a somewhat temporary marriage.

Hi All,

I've been researching receivers and it has literally been a very difficult decision. There are so many options out there and each one seems to be give you just a little bit but not everything. Anywho, I've been researching Denon and Onkyos and Denon's line-up literally made me go mad trying to identify what receiver does what. I researched Onkyo and I don't have a warm fuzzy about their quality, though I do think they put a lot of features in their products.

I'm starting to consider Marantz and trying to search for a deal on the SR5003 or SR6003. I don't hear a whole lot of discussion about marantz which has me a tad concerned. Would you recommend Marantz as a "very good" Home Theater receiver? I've read that they do very well with CDs and music, but is how do Marantzs compare when playing blu-ray or DVD? Are other brands significantly different (different meaning better) at handling movie soundtracks? Also, how is their customer support?

I'm running a 4T Hybrid SD system btw.

Hi all. Just got my 805 a couple days ago and have been trying to configure everything "perfectly". I am having big trouble with one aspect though and its this. I cant seemto figure out how to setup the crossovers for my Aperion speakers. Almost no matter what i do the sub falls asleep and the bass dies. An example. Everyone knows the Law and Order theme song. The bass notes hit and the sub awakens (somewhat slowly) then dies after 1 second of audio. The change is incredibly noticeable from bright to warm and back. I re-ran my audessy and realized most of settings can be altered in the setup so heres some specs etc...
Sub = yes
front = full band
center = 100 hz
surround = 150 hz
LPF of LFE = 80 hz
Double Bass = on

These next settings i may have tweaked manually but im unsure.
Front
Center
Surround
= +1db Bass
+2 db Treble

Now the speakers are Aperion Intimus 5t's F R/L 5t C And although i dont have them yet 5db's surround. Right now im using some old Celestion Little 1 speakers (no good). I know all the Aperion speakers are rated to 60 hz thereabouts. I am using the Bravus 8d for a sub and have set my crossover to bypass and have only changed one other setting which is lowest bass db -3 (cnet said it was better this way?)
Can anyone please help me with some setup ideas. I know its all subjective room is standard 15 x 20 i cant think of anything else but let me know if you need more info.
Here is some specs on the 5t
Frequency Response (+/- 3dB) 55-20,000 Hz -- (+/- 6dB) 45-22,000 Hz
Impedance 8 Ohms
Sensitivity 87 dB
Recommended Power 50-200 Watts
And the 5c
Frequency Response (+/- 3dB) 55-20,000 Hz -- (+/- 6dB) 50-22,000 Hz
Impedance 6 Ohms
Sensitivity 86dB
Recommended Power 50-150 watts
And lastly the 5db's
Frequency Response 100Hz to 20,000Hz
Impedance 8 Ohms
Sensitivity 86dB
Recommended Power 50-300 Watts

Hi,

I am planning to purchase the 4T. I am planning to buy a new reciever to. I am considering the pioneer 1019 or the pioneer elite S05 / S07.

Has anyone had experience with any of those, or had a chance to compare sound quality ? My main concern is the purity of the sound.

Also if you have other recievers that you think is good for the 4T I would appreciate this.....

Hi I will problably be buying the Intimus 5B-DB Fusion HD or something similar soon and I need to buy a new receiver to go with it. Any suggestions? Cnet has the Pioneer vsx-1019ah-k as the top mid-range receiver but it has a bad user manual and some complains that it overheats easily. Anyone having that problem or have other mid range receivers to recommend?

Just bought the 5T Hybrid HD system and a Sony STRDG1200

I just purchased the 5T Hybrid HD 5.1 setup and it hasn't been delivered yet but I'm starting to have second thoughts about my receiver. Is the Sony STRDG1200, a $900 receiver that I got for $580, good enough for this setup or will I get noticeably better quality for a few hundred more? I will be using this system for Blu Rays and music, all the audio will be coming through the HDMI on my 60GB PS3. I can't wait to get the speakers! I've never heard Aperions before but my dad has a Meridian 7.1 system so I know what the big $$ can sound like :)

After reading here and on avsforum for awhile, I am considering upgrading my system. I already posted a question about the speakers in the speaker forum, but I am also wondering about how best to power them. I was thinking about getting the Denon 3808 and powering the fronts with the Emotiva xpa-3. Sounds like Browninggold has done this and loves it if I remember right. My question is, if I'm powering the fronts with the emotiva, can I get away with a substantially cheaper receiver or would I be losing important capabilities besides power? I'm not nearly as concerned about video as I am audio. I just want to make sure that if I'm finally buying good speakers, I help them do their best by connecting them to capable equipment! Home theater setup issues

Hello Everyone,

I have a Onkyo HT-S990THX 7.1 System. I have a Sony Bravia LCD. I have a PS3.

I already have the PS3 run through the HDMI to the TV, I purchased some Red, Yellow, White cables to run through the TV to the Onkyo receiver. I cant seem to get sound out of my Onkyo system. Ive tested all the speakers with the "test tone" and they are all good. When I have The "R,Y,W" cables hooked to the TV it gives me an option to use Video 1, but if I use that then I no longer have video through the PS3. I dont have cable for the TV yet, so watching regular TV isnt the issue. The HDMI cable from the PS3 provides all the sound and video to the TV. Im just trying to re-route the sound through the theater system and use the TV just for video. Im at a loss, after going through the instruction manual. Im hoping there are some geniuses here who might have an idea. Or am I just using the wrong cables. My Onkyo has digital optical just like the TV but no HDMI on it. Any help would be great. Thanks. Also Ive trie to use rca connector to my computer through video 3 in the front and that works fine but only get 1 speaker to play sound. Ive also use the test tone for the speakers and they are all working just fine. Any ideas what I setup wrong?

I have to say the 3 6T Towers really enjoy the extra juice. Keep thinking it cannot get any better and it does. They really sing now when listening to 2 channel music, and for HT the 3808 is running the 4 surrounds...everything sounds a step up from before.

emotiva reciever vs 5t hybrid system?

I am hoping to get a new home theater system and am curious would it be better to get the 5t hybrid powered by a onkyo mid level reciever or the 4t hybrid with a emotiva 5 chanel amp along with there processer? where to put my money and what benefits would one have over the other or is it just a really easy decision for an audiophile which i dont have the trained ear but do want the best sound i can get for my money? any help is greatly appreciated!
