Wow, Alex..That's amazing. I'm not sure if it's funnier that you washed your iphone or that it survived.

I've got the touch and the only gripe is that I can't rip tons of albums lossless and expect to put them all on there, but as a portable device, it's amazing. Love it.

That Wadia iTransport is going to change the game. It's not terribly expensive and if you get a high capacity iPod you can fill it with high res music and it will sound just as good as a Naim CD player.

heh, true to form, I did break down and purchase an iPhone the day they came out and broke my t-mobile contract. Don't regret it one bit!

I also recently washed my iPhone in the washing machine while it was powered on and it miraculously survived the experience. Way to make a great product, Apple!

The zune has much better sound quality than the ipod while using the line out jack. Unless you use an LOD with the ipod, most other players sound much better. If you don't know what a LOD is, then the ipod is usually the "IN" thing to get and most people can't hear a difference on thier $10 earphones and 256kbs mp3s. I can't wait until the Wadia iTransport comes out later this month, so my Ipod will sound as good as a $1000 cd source. I would of thought that apple would of came out with this 1st. I always will buy the refurb ipods for 1/2 the price since that is about how much they are worth. I'm locked in with ipods since I have so much gear for them, but I wouldn't trade my little nano for a ipod touch.

waiting for the 2nd or 3rd generation isn't a bad thing.

by then it should be working very smoothly, and may even have a higher capacity.

The only down-side for me is I'm going to have to patiently wait out my T-Mobile contract. I suppose that means that Apple may be on the 2nd or 3rd rev of the iPhone, which could be a good thing. They might not be quite so expensive by then. Totally knocking on wood here.

iPhone - nice device; too many features I would never use, however. I'd like to see a simpler version of it; maybe with just the music player, PDA functions, and phone.

So far I've had no problems with Cingular aside from the occasional deadspot that every carrier suffers from. Since I switched to them from Verizon, I have found service to be better wherever I go-Portland-metro, Eugene, Southern Oregon, etc.

The iPhone (the Apple one, not the Infogear-nee-Cisco-nee-Linksys one), definitely looks sweet and, if everything functions as demonstrated by Mr. Jobs, will be pretty sweet. But I, for one, am not getting one.

The reason. I HATE Cingular - or as they are trying to rebrand to restore their crappy image - "the new AT&T" I am currently with Cingular (yes locked in the obligatory 2-year Purgatory that is the activation contract) and cannot stand them. I signed on with them in San Diego and it wasn't until I moved to the Portland area and realized how terrible their coverage is up here that I realized my mistake. And since Cingular/AT&T have exclusive rights to the iPhone for 2 years (not to mention that you cannot get an iPhone from Cingular without a 2-year contract), that's a deal-breaker to me.

Besides, by the time that the two-year exclusion runs out, more than likely something better will be out (iPhone v2?).

In the meantime, I'll be moving to Verizon Wireless as soon as my current Cingular contract expires in May.

They sure gave it the ol' college try. It sure must suck for them to try to completely copy the iPod in nearly every conceivable way (except all the stuff that really matters) and then to have Apple turn around and completely steal their thunder:
