    New system

First off, hello to everyone. I am a new member of the Aperion owner family. I have a few things to say and a question or maybe two.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the speakers at this point, I have had them for three days now. I bought the 4T hybrid system. I am running a Sony STR-DG820 that is also new. My last surrouind sound system was purchsed 12 years ago and it was all Sony, speakers included. I have learned much since then I assure you ;-).

So I decided to let the 820 do the setup for me even though I have read that the accuracy of the auto cal systems is questionable. But I wanted to start enjoying the setup NOW not after hours of reading the crappy Sony manual and mind you it is a cryptic manual to say the least. To this point I was feeling that the system was lacking a little in the bottom end so I sat down and decoded the sony manual and set the system up manual. Wow, what a difference. The auto cal had the sub set at a negative dB setting of around .5 or 1 I cant recall exactly. So that explains the lack of bottom end. It had the crossover settings wacked too for everything. I now have everything dialed in pretty close but still have a few things to learn and experiment with.

I cant totally blame the auto cal as my accoustical enviroment it a bit harsh. I live in a duplex and the first floor is bassically wide open with 9 foot ceilings and ceramic tile floor through out. Ouch, can you say reflections......

My question is in regards to the sub. The 820 doesnt have a parameter for sub crossover setting. Should I be trying to do it in the sub itself?

    Re: New system

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Glad to hear you are enjoying the system so far.  I double checked the manual for the STR-DG820 and you are correct it does not appear that the receiver has a subwoofer crossover setting.

So in that case, you should use the sub's crossover setting and we recommend that you use 80 Hz.

It sounds like an area rug might be a good idea for your main listening area if it doesn't incur any WAF issues.  Big Smile

Please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!

    Re: New system

I have an area rug and no wife (anymore) so thats never an issue. I need drapes and other such things to absorb some sound. All in due time.

I do have other questions but I need to create some drawings to accompany my questions first as it will be easier to convey my concerns that way
