Looking at a pair of 4t.

I currently have a 5.1 system that I'm pretty happy with, a Cambridge Soundworks Newton package.  They're running at 8 ohms.  I'm looking at upgrading to 7.1, which would require the purchase of 2 more speakers and a new receiver.  I was wondering if the 4Ts running at 6 ohms could possibly match up well with the Cambridge running at 8 ohms.  Also, what receiver would you recommend running this setup, if it advisable to do so?  I've been looking at refurb/floor model denons in the ~$550 range, 2808Ci for example.

    Thanks for the assist,

    John

Any standard receiver will drive the 6ohm 4Ts without a problem.  Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, any of those will work, they should all drive both 6 and 8ohm loads with ease.

For what it's worth, most recommend matching your L-R speakers with your center.  Either you should run new CS speaks for your left and right, or consider an Aperion center as well.  It will help the imaging as things pan across your front soundstage.

    PJ,

That's exactly the kind of response I was looking for.  I was less concerned with the technical ability to run it, and more concerned with quality.  Does that advice only apply to the fronts?  Or is it suggested to match the surrounds to the front as well, for similar reasons?

Re: Looking at a pair of 4t.

For movie watching it is not necessary for matching surrounds.

However, i can think of two reasons to get matching Aperion surrounds:

    1. If you are going to be enjoying multichannel music listening

    2. If your current surrounds appearance doesn't quite stack up to Aperions first class looks.

Now is it worth the extra $260 for a pair of 4B's to get the best integration and keep the aesthetics rocking?  If you have the money, then i say yes.  If not you will not really notice much of a difference when enjoying for favorite flicks.

I think the goal however is to always have a complete timbre matched set of speakers.

Agreed.  Won't hurt you, but could help you, depending on your source material.

Well, I've decided to bite the bullet, and go for a 7.1 system from Aperion... when my home theater room is done in a few months' time.  Look forward to joining the ranks of satisfied Aperion owners.

Re: Looking at a pair of 4t.

Congrats on the decision. I think you'll have no regrets although I just wanted to let you know that if you want the 4T set you might want to consider pre-ordering the 4T's now since they sell out very quickly. I believe if you purchased your whole order together Aperion could either send the speakers to you as they come in or hold the other speakers and send them with the 4T's when they get them in stock. Just an idea!
