    2009 Onkyo Lineup

I was browsing CNET today and came across the following 2009 Onkyo Receiver lineup:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10194032-1.html?tag=centerColumnArea1.1

Only goes up to the 607 so far. Seems like the number of HDMI inputs has jumped considerably and the backs area getting cleaner with the loss of so many inputs (S-video...etc).

    Speakers: Aperion 6T's, 6C, 4B's, and 8D
Receivers: Onkyo 805 and Pioneer SX-1050
    DVD player: Oppo 981HD
    TT: Pioneer PL-71
    Amp Selector: Niles DPS-1

The really big upgrade with this next generation is Pro Logic IIz with support for height channels.

I'm pretty curious to hear it for myself and see how much of a difference it makes.

You can have the height channels, I'd be happy with more 7.1 content Sad

    Re: 2009 Onkyo Lineup

To the very beautiful and understanding wife of Mr. JoeZ,

Because of the increasing pressure to keep up with technology, please give your husband permission to purchase additional speakers from AperionAudio for newly added "height channels" and replace his year old "obsolete" receiver with a fancy new model (with pretty lights) that supports these height channels.  And, by the way, he will need to cut several large holes in your ceiling.

    thanks,

    Jason Hicks

P.S. don't forget to include additional speaker wire and banana plugs in your order.  Have a nice day!

Ha, I admit it does sound kind of gimmicky, but I'm waiting to hear it in action before I pass any judgment.

Heck, Pro Logic surround sound seemed a bit over the top when it first launched.  What this, now I need five speakers and a subwoofer?!!! Geeked

Jason, did you ever get a chance to hear how the Height Channels added to the experience?

Unfortunately not, I didn't get a chance to do it before we stopped carrying Onkyo and now all we have here is an 876 that doesn't support them.

There's a post on this page of the AVS thread though from a customer using 5Bs as height channels and he recommends them:
