    Receiver tips

Everything I own will be going to the receiver by HDMI and out by HDMI. I have a PS3 and DirecTV HD box going to an XBR.

What receivers under 700 should I be looking at?

It will be pushing two 5T's and a 5C.........In the future that wil be accompanied by 5B's and an 8D

    Re: Receiver tips

Well it looks like from other threads you are already considering the 806, but along with that I'd take a look at the Denon 2809, Marantz 6003 or the Pioneer VSX-03TXH.

You might have to pay more around $750-$800 for the Denon and Marantz though.

Both are great receivers so I don't think you can really go wrong with either, but you do get the higher quality Reon video processing chip in the 876 as opposed to the Faroudja in the SC-05.

Not sure about Pioneer but with Onkyo you can set the HDMI output to "bypass" so it just passes the video signal without any processing.

    Re: Receiver tips

    Hey Toby.

Since you want HDMI pass through I think either will work. I personally think the difference in weight between the 805 and the 806 is significant. The 806 is significantly lighter and the internal layout is not as impressive.

I like the following reviews for both the 805 and 806:

    805: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_14_3/onkyo-tx-sr805-receiver-9-2006-part-1.html

    806: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/receivers/469-a-secrets-receiver-review.html

In reality the 805 has better DACs for music vs. the 806, but the 806 has better video upconversion. Since you don't want the upconversion the 805 is a better bit in my opinion.

    Re: Receiver tips

Hope you have figured it out but hopefully this will help if not:

I have the 875, so our GUI should be similar, if not the same. Select the receiver on the remote. Hit the setup button. Number one on the menu should be Input/Output Assign. That is the one we want so hit ENTER. The next menu should pop up. Number one on that one is Monitor Out. Select that one. Next menu there should me HDMI monitor. You should have it set to yes. The next one down is the resolution. You should have different options whether it be 480p, 720p, 1080i, auto or through. Select through and you should be set. Hope this was of some help. Enjoy the Onkyo paired with the Aperions.

    Re: Receiver tips

Thanks for the help. The 805 doesnt allow you to choose your resolution. But i was able to find out that the 805 was passing through my 1080 signal by holding down the "Display" button on the front of the receiver

    Re: Receiver tips

Sorry I wasn't really of help. I wrongly assumed that the GUI would be the same. Glad you were able to figure it out on your own. I love it when that happens. I don't like being outsmarted by my electronic gear.
