...that my new Aperion system comes in tomorrow!

 

I've had a HTIB Onkyo system for the past 6 years and just ordered from Aperion on Tuesday.  If all goes well I should receive my brand spanking new piano black 5T's up front with a 5C center and 4T surrounds sometime tomorrow.     Add to that my Bravus 12D and I think anyone could understand why I'm excited.  I've got the den wired, the banana clips are waiting, and my Onkyo 876 looks like she's as excited as I am.  Can't wait to unwrap the silk bags!

That sounds like an awesome setup... I remember the excitement when just my 4Ts were coming... so I can imagine what waiting on all of them must be like

Wow.  I left a note on the door on my way to work today that said "UPS, here's my cell-phone:XXXXXXX.  Call me when you get here."  Sure enough in the middle of the day I got a call and sped home at 80 mph in time to give my signature for my brand new Aperion setup. I had to go back to work, but couldn't stop thinking about my speakers for the rest of the day.  When I finally got to unpack em I knew they would look amazing and I wasn't let down.  The piano black goes perfectly with the rest of my setup.

I plugged everything in, ran the Audysey auto-setup on my AVR, and even busted out my free SPL meter to fine tune the speaker levels.  The first thing I played was Muse's HAARP concert DVD and it truly blew my mind.  I sat there on my couch and couldn't help but have an emotional response to the music.  I don't know how to explain it.  The only thing I can relate it to is being close to the stage in a great concert.  I pretty much melted into my couch.  My thanks to Aperion for making amazing speakers.

I've got one more thing to add.  I got a 20% discount on the 5C center since it was a B-stock item that I was told had a "scratch in the enamel."  After looking over it carefully for about 2 minutes I finally gave up because I couldn't even find the scratch.  Either they accidentally gave me a new 5C or Aperion takes their B-stock VERY seriously.  I couldn't be happier.

Aperion does take B stock seriously.  I purchased an S-10 B stock a few months back.  It was B stock because it had a refurbished amp and a small scratch in the lacquer on the back where the amp was installed.  You really need to get up close and personal to see the scratch. The best thing is you still get the full warranty and are still eligible for the upgrade program with the B stock stuff.  How can you go wrong?

I bought a set of B stock 5Bs, one had a light scratch on it. After about 10 minutes of looking I realized it was an extremely hard to see scratch... on the bottom of the speaker. Was definitely a good buy... was a bit upsetting when I had to send it back when I upgraded to the 4Ts

I'll confess that I'm no subwoofer expert but so far the 12D is treating me well.  When I set it up initially I had it a bit too close to the corner which muddied up the sound and made it sound a bit boomy.  After moving it about 1.5 feet away from the wall it really cleared up.  I watched Transformers on blu-ray and had to pause it during the helicopter attack in the beginning because one of my wine bottles vibrated off a cabinet and fell on the floor (carpet, luckily it didn't break).  I also listened to System of a Down's Toxicity CD this morning and I was hearing sounds from the kick drum that I had never heard before.  You'll have to give me some time listen for a while before I can give a real review, but my initial impressions are that it kicks ass.

I was a little concerned about the issue of the "auto" mode on the sub cutting in and out on certain receivers, so I gave the LFE channel some extra juice when calibrating the sound levels.  Basically, all my speakers are set around -6 dB on the receiver, but I increased the LFE channel to 0, then decreased the volume on the sub itself until the SPL level was right.
