    Speaker Break-in

What is the proper way to break-in new speakers? (I'm getting the 632 L/R and the 533 VAC.

    RE: Speaker Break-in

Well, I am really not a firm believer in speaker break in myself but set up your speakers with proper levels and listen. If I am not mistaken Aperion suggests 48 hours to break them in. I personally think that "break in" is really the listener getting broken in to the new systems sound if that makes sense. I will admit that the more I listened to the speakers the more I liked them but again I had to adjust my ears to the new sound. Either way I am sure you will enjoy them out of the box (and after 48 hours as well!) Welcome to the forum.

    RE: Speaker Break-in

Most speakers will sound fine right out of the box, but they will have a break-in period. I have even found some electronics have break-in periods. For example, the amplifiers in my car went through a break-in period, although it was not very noticable. The only reason I did notice it was because the day they were installed I was listening to a specific CD and I did not listen to that CD in my car again for about 2 months.

I have the 522-VAC; it took around 50 or so hours to break-in.

    Yeah, not sure about that...

Why do things always stop breaking in at the best sounding point, what tells the to stop 'breaking in' at a certain point.  Why do you never hear about things sounding worse when they 'break in'?  Wouldn't that have the same chance of happening if things actually broke in?  And do designers desing for break-in in the circuit design...I doubt it...

guys.. speaker break-in isnt some myth. the adhesives in the driver among other parts need to be exercized to allow for greater flexibility and it DOES affect the sound! (in high quality speakers). although aperion recommends 40-something hours in the manual, in the email they send when you buy, they actually recommend 100 hours.

    RE: Speaker Break-in

I reckon it's a bit of both, especially if you are replacing components as well, which can be a little jarring after handing over your hard earned. Despite my heightened expectations, the peace of mind from the aperion return policy and some patience has resulted in a very satisfied customer here...I apreciate them more with each listen, not my normal critical experience with new toys...
