    New 4BP Surround Speaker!

    Hey guys,

Our new four inch bipole surround speakers showed up yesterday.  The intention was to give folks a smaller, lower priced alternative to the 5DB with another dedicated surround speaker.  Check it out:

Indeed, and they're under the veneer so you don't see them when the grill is off, how slick is that?

    Re: New 4BP Surround Speaker!

If you are running just a 5.1 set up do you recommend a set of BPs over the Bs?

Since I don't really have the option to wall mount on both sides the BPs are probably out and I dont have any room to place behind the seating area so can't really go 7.1 I figured I could get Bs for rear in the 5.1 now and then when I upgrade to 7.1 at next location get the BPs to fill in the side?

    Re: New 4BP Surround Speaker!

We've found that the 4BP works very well in either side or rear locations due to its bipole nature. At the sides they're definitely less immersive than the 5DB, but still a nice improvement over the 4B as sides or back surrounds. I'd recommend giving them a shot over the 4Bs first, I'm sure you'll love 'em.

    Re: New 4BP Surround Speaker!

Are mounting brackets included? Can they or do these speakers need to be angled toward the listening position?

    Thanks!

    Re: New 4BP Surround Speaker!

jtakacs911, the 4BP come with the same flush mount brackets as the 5DB.  They also have threaded inserts for wall or ceiling mounts as well as a bottom insert for a security screw for mounting on stands (as do the 5DB's).

Thanks blkhks! If these are installed 3-4 feet above the listening area should I be concerned with directing them down towards the zone?

Nope, the speaker is designed to be flush mounted.  The way the speaker works is by providing a more diffuse sound field that creates an immersive surround effect and you would actually diminish that if the speaker is angled toward your listening position.

Fantastic! As long as they don't have to be right at ear level and pointed at my face, I think I may be getting these for my rear surrounds.

    Thanks!

You're welcome, as long as they aren't mounted above seven feet high, they'll be great for your rear surrounds.
