I don't have an iphone but I just use the headphone to RCA jack adapter to attach my ipod to my receiver.

The only docks that are worth money in my opinion are the ones that bypass the ipods internal DACs.

Another suggestion (and one I use).  Instead of hooking up my iPhone, I run my iTunes through my HT setup via an Apple Airport Express and a Toslink cable.  I use "Remote" on my iPhone to control it.

I think you are right. I THINK, unless i hear something bad about he Apple TV, that i will be buying an Apple TV and bypassing the iPhone all together and get the music striaght from my iTunes library. But I am concerned that the new iPhone, when i buy it on June 19th, wont be able to transfer the new video recording feature via the Apple TV

I was looking at the DLO Homedock HD and a review said go ahead and buy the Apple TV....

Jason, the Apple TV should allow the 805's DAC to do the heavy lifiting, right?

Anyone aware of any problems with the Apple TV?

I know a lot of people that have one integrated into their system and they love it.  I don't rent/watch many shows from iTunes, and already have the Airport Express option above, or I would have gotten one, too.

My guess is, if ANYONE had the option of transferring videos taken with the new iPhone, that Apple would be the quickest to a solution.  You will likely need to transfer your videos to your computer or Apple TV, but it will probably be the only solution for a while.

I think you would still be using the ipod DACs if you connect it to an Apple TV, but I would ask someone at Apple just to be sure.

PJ, You arent left wanting for better sound quality with your hook up?

Jason, The Apple TV takes the away the need for an ipod/iPhone from what I hear. It stores all the music on its 40gb or 160gb hardrive and trnsfers that via HDMI. All you need is an iTunes account...... The HDMI is the big draw for me.

Im just afraid that I invested a lot of money on nice speakers, why try and save 100 bucks on a dock that wont take advantage of that investment?

Gotcha, in that case then the Onkyo DACs are probably being used, I would still ask Apple though.

Re: Suggestions on connecting iPhone to a Onkyo receiver?

If you have iTunes on another computer, and you network the Apple TV (built-in, I believe), then you don't even need to store the music on the Apple TV itself.  It will stream it THROUGH the Apple TV, much like I do with my Airport Express, albeit without the pretty interface of Apple TV.

That said, to answer your question, nope...don't long for anything in the quality department.  The Airport Express streams over Toslink, so I have a very clean and digital connection to my setup.  It really sounds pretty amazing.

BTW...where are you located?  On the off chance you're near the Chicago area, I'm happy to demo it.

Re: Suggestions on connecting iPhone to a Onkyo receiver?

Airport Express can be found here and is $100, yes: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB321LL/A/AirPort-Express-AirTunes?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg&mco=MjE0NDc0OQ

You'll want mini-to-Toslink.  Cheap at Monoprice (a little over $2), which is where I got mine:  http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022902&p_id=1557&seq=1&format=2

Re: Suggestions on connecting iPhone to a Onkyo receiver?

What if I were to buy a Mini Display port to HDMI adapter? Does that transfer music or is sthat only for video? (I have a MacBook)

You know what, Im heading to the Apple Store on this one.......I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: Suggestions on connecting iPhone to a Onkyo receiver?

PJ, How do I select the Toslink connection to listen to my Airtunes on my Onkyo?

Re: Suggestions on connecting iPhone to a Onkyo receiver?

Never set up an Apple TV, so I'm not sure how much different it will be.  For my Airport Express, the Toslink connection is the same as the stereo minijack connection.  You just plug it in, then in the Airport Utility, set it up.  From there, you select Airport Express in iTunes (lower right hand corner) as the playback method (vs computer speakers).

Dunno how much of that will translate to your application.
