    Attaching Speaker Stands to 632-LR

I just got a pair of 632's surround speakers and stands. I've put the stands together according to the poor instructions and have a question: how do the stands securely attach to the bottom of the speakers? It is not apparent and I don't want to start drilling holes until I'm sure of the best method. Thanks... Rest of system: Yamaha RXV-2600, S-10, 633-T, 533-VAC

RE: Attaching Speaker Stands to 632-LR

Hi Greg. The studio tech stands (for the 632's) don't attach to the speaker. The weight of both is great enough that there is no risk of knocking them over, unless on purpose.  In audiophile terms, you actually get better audio performance when the speaker is decoupled from the stand - just use the dampening foam pads that come with the stands.

If attachment is what you're after, I often recommend heavy duty velcro. It really does work well.

    Cheers,

    Hi Greg,

I have a pair of 632’s sitting on somewhat lightweight solid cherry stands.

I modified the speaker plate to more effectively fit the 632’S, which means a larger platform conforming to the size and weight distribution of the 632.

Due to the weight of the 632, I believe that you would knock over both speaker and stand if impacted, although I have not tested that and have no desire to do that test.

If you want a rigid mount, there is a ¼ /20 inch bolt mount on the bottom of the speaker.

If you decide on this then you would also need to fasten the speaker stand permanently to the floor to make the assembly as rigid as possible.
