Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD?

    Hi,

I'm planning to get Intimus 4T SD system for family room HT. I can't make decision on receiver. I'm looking at Marantz SR6001 (100W per channel). Do you think it will drive Intimus system well? Which receiver do you recommend? I can get Marantz for around $350 (refurbished). No need for TrueHD or DTS Master HD since I'm going to get Oppo BD 83 which decodes these sound fomats anyway.

    Thanks for advice.

    Michael

Hi Michael, thanks for your inquiry. Wow, Marantz seems to be popular today on this forum. The 6001 is a great receiver, with more than enough power and sound quality to get the best out of our speakers. And at that price, it's a steal: I think you'll be very pleased.

    Happy Listening!

    Marantz mania indeed!  Geeked

Check out my response to a pretty similar thread here:

He wasn't so hot on Onkyo so I didn't throw them into the mix, but they are quality units as well and very popular with our customers.  The equivalent from Onkyo would be the 706, but if you poke around you may be able to find a similar deal to the Marantz on the older 705.

thanks. there are other Marantz, but SR6001 fits my bill. I read your other post and Denon 2310 catches my eyes. I'd like to have independent X-over freq for each speaker, but the price is way over my budget.  For temporary solution, i guess i just get something i can enjoy while saving for something better :)

Re: Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD?

Just ordered Intimus 4T Hybrid SD.

Another question on speaker wire.  I have wood floor and there's no way i can run wire inside the wall for surround speakers. So i decide to run flat speaker wire (not the one super flat with sticky tape) under rug area. I just want to keep the wire stay put, i have to use double side tape. Does anyone experience the same thing? Does the tape damage the floor when i decide to take off the wire later?

    thanks.

Re: Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD?

Hi Michael, my experience has been this depends both on the tape and your floors. I have to do this myself on my floors and am using multiple pieces of double-sided satin "gift wrap" tape to great effect--no residue or damage to the floors and it lifts easily. Of course, YMMV, but I was able to "test" my tape on a spare, replacement flooring section first and it worked great.

    Hope this helps,

    - OIiver

Re: Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD? (receiver updated!)

Sorry to bother you one more time about Marantz receiver.

While i was looking at Marantz SR6001, i also found SR5600 (90W / channel and no HDMI) . The SR5600 is what i need since I don't need HDMI and other bell & whistle. The only thing concern me is that SR5600 is only 90 wpc and SR6001 is 100wpc. I have no experience, but i was wondering if 90wpc is more than enough to drive Intimus 4T hybrid?

    thanks very much.

Re: Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD? (receiver updated!)

Hi Michael, no worries. 90 WPC of high quality power like the Maranrz will be plenty. In fact, there's almost no difference between a 90 WPC and a 100 WPC amp when comparing the same brand. When comparing similar models like you are here, you would actually need to double the power before you would notice a minor 3 db increase in volume. For more info on how power amp ratings work, check out the info here.

    Best,

Not to throw a monkey wrench in here, the Integra DTR 20.1 ($600) or the Integra DTR 30.1 ($800) are really good.  These both give you the option to grow your system in to a multi room (zones) system down the line and are geared towards custom installations as well.  For the price, the DRT 30.1 offers quite a bit more than the lesser priced DTR 20.1 but both are fine receivers...

Received Intimus 4T Hybrid SD. Awesome packing and speakers. I just hooked up 4T and the sound is great. Need to break-in the speakers and waiting for receiver to arrive to complete the system setup

Congrats,  If you have not gotten the new reciever yet you might want to take a look at Pioneer 1019.  It got REALLY good reviews on CNET.

I have just ordered the 4T's myself :)

    Cheers

Re: Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD? (receiver updated!)

I actually received Marantz 5600, but the unit is not working out of the box (refurbished by manufacture) and i bought it from accessories4less.com (authorize dealer). It stinks that accessories4less does not handle the exchange but the manufacture. I've waiting for  2 days without any notice. I'll call Marantz directly instead of waiting for them.  I promise myself  that never buy anything from accessories4less.com anymore....too much headache.

I'll check out Pioneer 1019 or may be saving more $ for Denon 3808.

    thanks

Heh, well the choice between the 1019 and the 3808 is like a Corolla or a Lexus ES09.

Re: Which receiver to use with Intimus 4T Hybrid SD? (receiver updated!)

Tru Dat: Taking the extra features out of the equation, our speakers (and pretty much anyone else's too) will always sound better with higher quality amplification--perhaps the biggest bennie of a higher end receiver. And while of course making sure you first pick speakers that best fit your needs, room, etc., next would be getting the best quality amplification possible/feasible to wring that last ounce of performance out of your speakers--that's why we chose to use Outlaw separates and an Onkyo 876 in our showrooms here. The Pioneer 1019 seems to be a great receiver for the price--an excellent value, and it will provide a good measure of sonic goodness to your speakers. But no question about it: Put something as good or better than a Denon 3808, or Onkyo 876, or Marantz 8002, various NADs, Arcams, Rotels, etc. on your speakers and they will pay you back with even more gooder, mucho better sound.

    Happy Listening,

    - Oliver
