    Beatles Remastered

Got this yesterday.  Highly recommend, even if you're not the biggest Beatles fan (I'm not).  Great quality, and their entire catalog.  Pretty special time, even if it's not a higher form of encoding, such as a 5.1 mix of some kind.

I haven't even heard them on my home system yet (only at work), and I've been HIGHLY impressed.

Did you get the mono or stereo mixes?

Stereo.  I'm not enough of a purist to go mono.

That, and the stereo version is what was sent to me.  LOL

I'm more interested in the mono mixes myself.

When they were creating the albums, up until Let it Be at least, they would do the masters in mono and then just let the engineers do the stereo mixes.

So in that way, the mono mixes are the way the Beatles themselves intended for them to be heard.

But...since they let the engineers do the stereo mixes, the Beatles did not intend for them to be heard in mono!?!?!?!?!? Otherwise, they would have relased them in mono. Some of the stereo effects in the music is really trippy!!!! Just sayin....

Actually everything up through the White Album was also released in mono, on LP.  The later albums mono editions were quite limited and they are amongst some of the most sought after Beatles albums.

That's why it's cool to finally have the original mono mixes on CD.

Jason's completely correct; unfortunately, the Beatles never even heard a lot of those stereo effects--they would leave the studio right after collaborating in and approving the mono mixes. In fact, George Martin is famous for saying something like "You've never truly heard Sgt. Pepper's until you've heard it in mono." Whoa. And I definitely agree: I love my Japanese Odeon mono Beatles records for their more honest perspectives. Sure, I've always thought these pressings sounded a bit smoother and more rolled off than they should; but for me hearing the mono mixes for the first time was a musical revelation.
