Finally getting my Aperion system tomorrow!

Sub cables getting delivered to work today.  My 4T-CB Hybrid system sitting and waiting to be picked up  at my mother's after an oil change tomorrow morning.  Demo DVDs ready to go.

    I can hardly contain myself.

Planning to post my thoughts after hook up, but after prowling this site for almost a year, I will finally be an Aperion owner.

Shipping issues with my subwoofer cables, and I'm not going to get them until Monday.  What to do.

You can always use a regular RCA cable for the sub.  Granted, it won't have the shielding of a subwoofer cable and you may get hum, but I'd try it rather than doing nothing until Monday.

Yeah sorry about the shipment issue, but you can also use a speaker wire connection over the weekend as a temporary solution if you have some extra hanging around.

Worst case scenario you can play a bit with the rest of the system, which sounds pretty darn good even without a sub if I don't say so myself.

    Welcome to the family!

Re: Finally getting my Aperion system tomorrow!

FedEx actually still messed up the address after I had corrected it twice.  I even went to the facility to pick up my package, which then wasn't there as it's all ready to be delivered to me Monday.

Guess it serves me right for trying to change it last minute.

As for alternatives at least for using the sub this weekend, what is my best option that won't require a ton of calibration later:

    -speaker wire or RCA cable?

And also, will component video cable work or just standard RCA cables?  I feel like the component cables I have are more shielded, but don't want to connect anything that could ultimately be damaging.

Re: Finally getting my Aperion system tomorrow!

A component video cable is just a set of RCA cables (albeit, a set of three of them). Use the RCA. Odds are, you won't even hear a difference, unless you are using crappy cables. If you use the component, just plug the same color from the amp to the sub (you only need one single RCA). You only need to plug it into the LFE input on the sub (shooting from memory here, on the road).

Re: Finally getting my Aperion system tomorrow!

Definitely sans subwoofer for the weekend, but I can already tell that even the bass driven from my towers is going to possibly bother my neighbors.  RCA cables I connected either resulted in a very harsh constant loud humming, or nothing at all.  Of course, I forgot that I gave away my shielded component cables when I sold my old Panasonic HTIB last year and switched to HDMI.

Only problem now, and something that I knew might be an issue because the center measures about 3/4" taller than the base of my Samsung DLP, is I really have no choice but to mount the center on the wall in order to even use my TV remote.

Pictures to come after I spend some time calibrating and enjoying, but the 2 scenes of the Dark Knight I had time to demo last night sounded absolutely amazing.

Cables have arrived!  Wall mount for the center to come Friday.  Will definitely be giving my system a work out Saturday afternoon!

Re: Finally getting my Aperion system tomorrow!

I realized that my sub wasn't maintaining a steady signal, especially with music.  I'm driving the system with the Onkyo 507.  For now, I seem to have fixed the problem by simply setting the sub level to +12 in the receiver's level calibration, but is this really the recommended way to do it?

Yup.  Many of us have had the same issue, and that fixed it.
