    Netflix, CinemaNow, Vudu?

I have a LG BD-390 BD player with a wireless connection to my home network.  I've had Netflix for awhile and recently started downloading movies to the LG.  It's OK, but the movies are standard definition. But, you can't beat the price since it's free with a Netflix account.

The LG came along with information about CinemaNow and Vudo.  I looked at them and they both seem to be a "pay as you go" option and, from what I can tell, they offer HD content.

Any experience with either CinemaNow or Vudu?

    Thanks!

Hey joe-  I also stream netflix using my xbox 360 elite and I just recently purchased a Insignia wireless blu-ray which streams netflix for MBR.  Anyways Netflixs does offer HD movies for streaming.  They do not look bad to my eyes.  It probably depends on your internet connection speed.  The HD movies do not offer the audio codecs like TrudHD etc...but I heard they are working on that, maybe a firmware update in the future.  Just look for the HD symbol on the netflix site.  Click watch instantly tab and in genres and down the list is HD.

Thanks for that. I hadn't noticed the HD in there (how is that a genre?...whatever). I now have a bunch of new movies in my instant queue :-)

Still interested in any experiences with CinemaNow and Vudo.

I have netflix, no personal experience with Vudu, but they came out very well in an article i read in Consumer report s this week

    http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/march/electronics-computers/stream-online-movies/which-movie-services/stream-movies-which-movie-services.htm

The lone exception was Vudu's HDX movie format, the only movie stream that looked like real HD. To see that quality with HDX, though, you need speeds that are at the high end of most broadband providers' standard service (4.5 to 9Mbps). If access to true HD on demand is important to you, your best bet (at least for now) is to buy hardware that offers Vudu service and make sure your broadband speed is high enough

And a grid to compare services:

    Thanks - good info.

I activated my DVD player on my Netflix account.  I can see my Instant Queue but if I hit play it says, "loading" then goes back to the queue. I'm clearly online (I see the queue and I can watch Youtube videos with no problem) but not getting anything from Netflix.  I'll continue to play.

Hey joe-  I just checked netflix on my player and it is working...I thought maybe Netflix would be having a problem but all is working good.

    Thanks for checking.

I can see the view now movies fine on my PC but not the LG.  It may have to do with the wireless connection (too slow?).

It's impossible to run an ethernet cable to my equipment (I even have to use wireless rear speakers in that room).  A friend has a very long ethernet cable that I'm going to borrow and try it with a wired Internet connection to rule out a wireless issue.
