Hi Cucore, not sure if you're still following this, but we now have the UD5005 product page up. It doesn't have the quickest load times, but it's a great performing machine with Marantz' wonderful build quality. You can find it here:

Let me know if you have any questions on it.

    Happy listening!

    Re: Marantz UD5005

I was considering the Marantz UD5005 to couple with a sr5005. Apart from the build quality perfectly matching the receiver, the feature set included in the $600 price isn't that compelling - especially compared against some of the new entrants this year (like the panasonic DMP-BDT210 which is selling for less than  $200, and inlcudes wifi).

I'm currently using a PS3 for DVD and BluRay playback. Can you see any reason to purchase a dedicated DVD/BR player like the UD5005, DMP-BDT210, or Oppo BDP-93EU?

    Re: Marantz UD5005

If you have a PS3, I'd say stick with it--it's really good, and still one of the best out there IMO. And bonus, you can play video games, too! I see no reason to change it, unless you feel it's lacking some specific feature you don't currently have.

    Re: Marantz UD5005

Thanks for your input Oliver. I was considering the oppo mainly because I've read about better DVD upscaling/transcoding, and a better overall video processor.

     Perhaps I'll reassess that.

    Re: Marantz UD5005

I did purchase a oppo bd-93 instead of the Marantz UD5005. I ran some bluray and  720p dvds through both PS3 & the oppo. If there was a difference on bluray discs, I might not have noticed it. Load times felt much snappier on the oppo.

Where the oppo clearly outshined the PS3 was in 720p playback. The oppo breathed new life into many dvds which I had previously accepted as "this is as good as it gets". The upscaling coupled with a plethora of zoom options meant that I could get a much sharper picture which filled the entire screen.

At $499, the oppo isn't an impulse buy - but if you watch upscaled content and desire the best picture quality, it's clearly the better option.

    Re: Marantz UD5005

How do the Oppo 93 and the Marantz 5005 compare, regarding the sound quality that is output to an A/V receiver.  (I have a Marantz SR7005 receiver.)

I invite comments from anyone, thank you.

    Re: Marantz UD5005

Ahh, yes--if you're doing alot of DVDs as opposed to Blu-ray, the upscaling on that Oppo indeed is very, very nice. The zoom and scan modes on the Oppo are also a bonus to projector users as well should you ever go that route. I haven't compared the two head to head, but so far with my limited use of the Marantz spinner, it sure looks pretty with both DVDs and Blu-ray; and the sound quality from the analog outs is nice too if you're doing stereo music. Thanks for the info on the Oppo!
