    Stands for the 522D-SS

I have been using the 522d-SSs as the rear channels in a 5.1 system mounted flush on the wall. I just moved and beginning re-installation when i discovered that one of the walls that i was going to mount on is made of some sort of metal. The ceiling is concrete, so that's really not an option. I was thinking of getting speaker stands, but i was hoping to find one tall enough to put the speakers at the appropriate height (6 ft?) I don't even know if that exists or how i would monthe the speaker to the stand. anyone with suggestions?

Laurence, the highest 'substaintial' speaker stand I know of is 42". Would there be a possibility of building a custom shelf mounted to the wall to mount the speaker on? I am thinking something along the lines of the same footprint of the 522D-SS's, but with a bracket that would allow you to sink an anchor that will penetrate the metal wall?

I can't tell why the metal is actually there-- it's an old aparment building and may be some sort of duct. Short of find some blueprints, I think it will be mostly impossible to try. Any suggestion of stand brand or how i might fix the SS to the stand?

Laurence, I don't know of any 6' speaker stands, and I would be leary of them toppling over with the slightest nudge, being so top heavy when loaded with a speaker.  I used the Target FS 40" speaker stand with good results with a direct-radiating rear speaker before.  It got the sound up and over the couch back and furniture.  This is probably your best bet, unless you can find a higher stand???

I'd just do an experimental drill into it

Are you drilling through sheetrock and then hitting metal?  Possibly just metal stud construction?

    RE: Stands for the 522D-SS

When i tap on the wall it sounds hollow like a sheetrock wall, but when i went to make a hole in it it was just paint and then metal. any ideas on how to fix the speakers to the stands as the speakers do not have the pre-drilled holes on the bottom?

    RE: Stands for the 522D-SS

    Hi,

I have 522 surrounds also and was concerned about speaker height.  Since I could not mount them on the walls, I found two "milk carton" boxes or other pedestal type boxes and draped them with black felt and placed the Aperion speaker stands on top of them.  This makes the stands very steady and works great for me.  Just the right height too.  Good luck

Laurence, try a little 'Blu-Tack' to connect the 522's firmly to the stand.  This works quite well, and leaves no marks on either the stand or speaker when you are done!  Good Luck!
