    Onkyo Crossover Settings???

I just ordered a full setup of the 422's for my apartment and was looking to get my receiver setup and ready for my new speakers.  I had a question which I cant figure out and can't find a good answer for..  hopefully an expert here can guide me to an answer

I have an Onkyo TX-DS787 receiver which has the speaker settings for large/small.  Seems like when small is set it sets the x-over freq at 80hz and when large is set it sends the full range.   Now  in looking at the specs for the 422's they have a rating of 100hz-20khz...does that mean I can set the receiver to large and the speakers x-over will cut off the sub 100hz  then set the sub freq to 100-120 to pick up the low end?  I dont want to send a full range to the speakers and have them sound rough...  and I dont want to have a gap in frequency either.  Or will it matter?

Thanks in advance and I cant wait till I get these setup.

    RE: Onkyo Crossover Settings???

    Hi Jonathan,

I don't believe that your Onkyo receiver has variable crossover settings. As a result, you will want to set your 422's to small and the receiver crossover to 80Hz. (If you can set it higher at 100 that would be better but I don' think you can.) Don't set them to large because that will send a full range signal to the 422's which could damage them.

Then, set the crossover setting on your subwoofer about 120Hz. You will probably want to adjust it by ear to get a good blend but this is a good place to start.

    Cheers,
