Fellowship is my favortie of the three.  I was hoping Return would have been the best, and from the books, I felt it had the potential to be the best, but I was slightly dissapointed with it.  It was still a great film though!  The whimsy and enchanting introduction to the worlds and characters in the first film makes it the best IMO.  It just has a great feel to it.  My wife disagrees with me, and Towers is her favorite...

Storywise, I believe I liked the first one the best, but I really enjoyed all three of them.  As for sound, the only one I have listened to on my new system is the last one; "The Return of the King".  Let me tell you, this movie gave me goosebumps and made me feel like a proud papa to my new setup.  This movie came alive and really showed what these speakers are capable of delivering.

Not only was there great surround and thunderous bass; with the addition of the new VAC center channel, the vocals came alive and made you feel like a part of the movie.  This movie showed off the new VAC really well, especially during some of the fight scenes involving the dragons (not sure of the correct names of them) some of the enemies were flying on.

Oh, and one other thing with these movies.  The Extended Editions are the only ones to watch once they are released.  I bought both the regular and extended editions of the first two, but have held off buying ROTK until the EE comes out in November.  I can't wait!  These DVD's do sound excellent!  Well, at least FOTR did on my last HT in the old house, I've only watch TTT in my living room tv for the past year.

RE: Lord of the Rings Triology

I am actually surprised by the postings so far, but I agree.  I also find the Fellowship of the ring to be the best 'movie'.  The Two Towers and the Return of the King are very good movies and riveting to watch, but not as well put together at the Fellowship.  I thought that is was more deserving of the best film Oscar than ROTK.  A Beautiful Mind beat out Fellowship.  Russell Crowe did a great job in A Beautiful Mind, but Fellowship should have won Best Picture.....I digress

Yes, I am a Lord of the Rings nut.  I own both versions of the first two movies and the standard version of ROTK because I didnt want to wait for the extended versions.

Most of you probably know by now that there is bonus material on the extended versions of both of the first two movies.  Go to the chapter selection on disc 1, then highlight the last chapter.  From there, arrow down and you will highlight a ring.  Press enter while on the ring and you will access the hidden feature.  Each movie has a different MTV Movie Awards skit about the Lord of the Rings.  Be warned, even though it was on TV, it was on MTV and the skits are a bit more riske'.

RE: Lord of the Rings Triology

Fellowship is my favorite, as well, for pretty much the same reasons.

I didn't care much for The Two Towers or Return of the King. In the case of TTT, I didn't like the changes that were made to the storyline. The book just made more sense.

Same goes for ROTK, except that viewing it made me despise Peter Jackson and his crew. To me, it seemed as though they decided to hijack the storyline and do whatever they chose. Some parts were too long, some too short, others just made no sense at all. Maybe the Extended cut will provide a better flow, but I doubt it.
