    RE: Denon 3806

    Hi Steve,

Yesterday I checked out a 3806 connected to B&W XT series speakers at a local specialty shop.  The sound quality was amazingly clear at high volumes.

The XT's are very expensive speakers, but the 3806 did not do anything to degrade them (that I could tell).

In my opinion, it probably is the best receiver at that price point.  I'll be ordering a 3806 to go with my Aperions by the end of the week.

James- what did you think of the B&W XT series? I was looking at them on B&W's site the other day and I was very curious....

    RE: Denon 3806

The XT's are an elegant looking speaker, they have a very small footprint for a floorstanding speaker and would not dominate a living room.  I'd imagine they pass the spouse test...

When the music started, I was surprised at how much sound was coming from them, especially on the low frequencies.  I asked the salesman where the sub was located only to find out there was not one in the room.

These floorstanders I believe in the neighborhood of 2700 clams/pr.  But this is probably full-blown retail as this particular store can get away with it since they are the only one's here in Boise who carry high-end stuff.

The speakers sold me on the 3806 receiver.

I have an Aperion 7.1 system and am using the Denon 3806. They sound great together!! The Denon line in general can be a bit complicated to get set up but that is due to all the features and customization that it has. It has a great feature set for the price and because it is a Denon you know it is of quality. Even though it is not rated for 4 ohm speakers i am running my 633t's without issue. It gets VERY loud. I only wish i could have afforded the 4306!

    HI eveyone,

    Thanks for the replies.

I have the AVR1804 with my 422s and I think it sounds great.  My new set up will be...

632s up front, 533VAC, Dipole/bipoles sides, 422s for the back and a the 10" sub.

This is what I want to hook up to the 3806.

I can get one at a really good discount from an authorized dealer (friend hook up)so I think I will pull the trigger.

    Thanks again

    James-

thanks for the info on the XTs. I'm not too concerned the spouse acceptance factor....she's ok with new speakers, so long they ARE NOT Bose

I've actually been looking into the B&W 700 series which are roughly the same price, I think. I want to put together a nice, high end, 2-channel system in addition to a home theatre system.

And thanks for mentioning the 3806, as this is one of the receivers I've been looking at getting. I'm still leaning towards a Marantz 8500 though.
