Decisions Decisions for a loyal Aperion owner!!! ..... 533-PTs or 633-Ts

I've been an Aperion audio owner for a good while now.  I have a 7.1 setup (currently running 5.1) with the 533-PTs anchoring the LF and RF positions, 634-VAC pulling center channel duty, 533-SS pulling SR/SL duty, and S-10 completing the army.  The 532-LRs were the SBL and SBR channels, but I had to put them to bed temporarily when I shifted the room.

Here's my issue.  I've been looking at the 633-Ts for months now.  Ken actually prompted me to consider replacing the 533PTs with the 633Ts.  Since I put hardwood floors in my home I've had to turn the bass down on my PTs since I have the S-10 sub.  The sound is still stellar with the bass cranked up.  However, I don't want to register readings on the local Richter scale and the orientation of the equipment in the room only heightens the bass with the flooring.  I feel that the mids get muddied in the bass with the new floors.  I’ve bought rugs and put up curtains, but I’m having difficulty finding the perfect levels.  I've also begin listening to music a great deal more than I used to.  From all indications the 633-T are slightly better equipped for the critical music listener.  It has also been brought to my attention that the 634-VAC makes a better pairing with the 633-Ts.

I've decided to sell my 533-PTs with my 532-VAC (now hibernating in the box) Center to purchase the 633-Ts.  Do you think this is a good idea?  Could some of the Aperion faithful chime in with their thoughts?

It's definitely  a great idea......I have the 633t and a 634 right smack in the middle and it is definitely an incredible frontline.  I'm not even going to waste your time with my opinions.  The reality is that my ears have not heard anything better, and I have heard my fair share of speakers.  Don't even think about it!  Sell those bad boys and step it up!  You will not be dissappointed

New speakers are always nice, but you have some serious acoustic problems in the room, based on your comments.  Lots of reflective surfaces.  Curtains and rugs help, but in reality, you may need to spend more time and money getting the room in shape.  I'm no expert, but your comment about muffled and muddied midrange and booming bass indicate you need to tune the room up a lot.  Not an easy thing.  Have you listened from different spots in the room?  That can help you understand the acoustic issues you may have.  At any rate, before spending on speakers, you may want to look into some room upgrades.  Of course, like I said, new speakers are always nice.

    Good luck with the decisions,

    Charlie

I completely agree with Charlie that you'd want to spend a bit of time and money on your current room challenges before you look into upgrading the speakers (though I also agree that you should upgrade -- but I'd address the room first).

There are several ways you could go about getting someone to help you with your room but my suggestion would be to try Bryan Pape from the AVS Forums (he's a regular poster in the dedicated theater construction section).  He does a lot of consulting for room acoustics.  People have been very pleased with his service and the results.  It's on my wish list for a future birthday or father's day gift to have him tweak my room a bit.  He can work remotely as well as locally.

    Hi Lewis!

Yes! Upgrade the speakers. I have the 633T's with the 634VAC and love the combination. Having the PT's with the Sub may be part of your bass problem, there is simply too much of it. Have you tried relocating your 10 to another place in the room?

I'm glad to hear you have the bi/dipoles as your L/R surrounds. Last I remember you had them behind the seating area, is that still the case? If you moved them to the side, did you like that better than the 532's?

Room treatments are always a good idea, but if you plan on making a speaker change, it may be better to do that first, so you can tune the room to the new additions.
