    633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

    Hey ladies and gents,

I see that Aperion has come out with a new tower and of course I want it!  Here's my dilemma.  I currently have a 7.1 setup consisting of (2) Power Tower fronts, (1) VAC, (2) 522D-LR surrounds, and (2) Dipole back surrounds and the S-10 subwoofer.  I love the look of the new Towers !!!!  I was thinking of shifting the Power Towers to the side and bookshelfs to the rear.  I would probably trade-in my Dipoles in that my recent move (smaller living room) has lessened their effectiveness.

I know the 633's don't have a powered sub, but my receiver (HK DPR2005) is capable of pushing them.  Would I gain anything by adding the new 633's in the front?  Of course they are heavier and have more drivers (as a male I often feel ... the heavier the better ....LOL).  Caleb from Aperion indicated that I would have a musical improvement, but may want to keep the PT's up front in that I watch more movies.  Caleb also told me to poll the audience in that some of you may have some valuable input.  Help me out here!!!!!!!!

I like new 633 T too. Darn, but it's heavy speaker and bulkier than PT based on the picture and description. Well,if i get 633, then i will need a wheel cart to carry speaker too....  Hope that any review of 633 T is coming out soon.

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

They look nice, but they are markedly more bulky than the 522-PTs. If you live in a condo/small place - then the 522s blend very nicely, don't take up much room, are sleek and don't turn your small living space into a hifi showroom ...I think if they add the new HDX3 into the 522 series in the future, then this might make the 522-PT a great and space-efficient speaker. I haven't heard the 633s mind you, so I don't know what the difference is. They are $100/ea cheaper than the 522s so one could spend that difference and a bit more on a sub. I think the 632-LRs are quite bulky as rears though, if you have space issues and for rears, you don't really need that much power/bass etc. However the 632-LR might make good fronts with a good sub in a very small space, since they seem, spec wise, to have good frequence response. Does anybody at Aperion know when the 522s will have this HXD3 integrated into them? BR, Sany.

I agree with you , Sany. If HD-X3 implemented into PT, it would be great. I heard PT at my friend's house. It sounds great at its price. , and the speaker looks awesome compare to more expensive speakers i've ever seen. One drawback though the built-in sub need power cord . This has good and bad , good is the your amp or receiver will not working hard...and bad is if you don't have much outlets around. My friend is going to replace the powercord which comes with PT by aftermarket powercord because the original one looks tiny... Anyway, i think PT is good one for sure...and i will get it in anytime soon.

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

Micheal, please post your thoughts on the PT with an aftermarket cord vs. the stock power cord.  I've been interested in trying this, but haven't gotten around to it myself.

The 5 series line will be implementing the HD-X3 crossover technology.  The 4 series and 6 series already have it, and at the show, Aperion announced that the 5 series will too!

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

Lewis, my personal thoughts, I would stick with your PT's, especially if you are mostly HT.  The 633 are great, but the PT are so damn impressive with their integrated bass.  The 633's don't go as low as the PT's, and they are much bulkier.  The PT's will blend better with your current speakers as well.  If you were switching to an all 6 series system, it might be a little different, but my personal preference would be to keep it all in one series.

They do sound beautiful with music!  I heard them with no sub at the HE show, and they were impressive!  Also impressive with HT as well with a single 10" sub.  I think you need a decent amount of space for the 6 series.  The HD-X3 crossover is a step in the right direction for Aperion, from an already impressive offering.  The HD-X3 crossover IS coming to the 5 series as well though.

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

Jim, My friend has all aftermarket power cords in his Rotel gears. The aftermarket cord does make different in sound. I myself used to be a non-believer in power cord. However, after hearing it by switching stock power cord and aftermarket power cord,i've changed my mind... The sound is clearer, bass is more defined with aftermarket cord. I believe it will make different in PT's subwoofer. I 'll let you know once i hear it. By the way , do you know when PT will have HD-x3 implemented? I am interested in hearing it. thanks.

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

Michael, I definitely beleive in the power of PC's. I use them in my 2-channel system with the CDP and integrated. They are just not long enough to pull into the HT for a demo with the PT's. I am sure they will make a difference, just wondering how much of one for the price? I believe the 5 series will be implementing the HD-X3 crossover by the ned of June? You probably want to ask Aperion about the exact date.

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

Interesting discussion regarding the power cords. I wonder if the HD-X3 will really make any huge audible difference in the 522-PTs...I mean a difference that a non-dog-eared-audiophile could hear I still have 3 weeks left trial on my current system that I just got...if the HD-X3 made such a huge difference...I could trade them in

RE: 633-T Tower Speaker - Should I get a pair?

Sany, I don't think the differences are huge, but they are there. Having heard the HD-X3 at the show and owning the DiAural versions myself, I personally don't feel compelled to upgrade to the HD-X3 versions. If I brought home a pair with the a HD-X3 5 series system and A/B'ed them right next to each other, I know I would hear the differences and probably prefer the HD-X3, but the DiArual sounds damn good too and I have no complaints. To me, it's just not worth the effort of all the shipping back and forth to upgrade (even though I probably could as I am just under the 1-year trade-up policy).
