Hi all,
I orderd the 422's just to see how the sound was and I have to say, I am impressed. The sound they produced for their size is truly impressive! The problem is they are just not a full range speaker and that is what I truly need. I ordered the 8-APR sub and was not impressed with it as it could not even keep up with 2 channel music, they truly need more power to properly keep up, even a 60 Watt Adcom amp, subs need about 4 times more power than the rest of the speakers to be able to keep up with the demands of movies or even music. I am sure the 8-APR is a fine produce in a small room (12 x 12 or smaller) but anything larger forget it. Really a sub with around 1k watts and up would be what I recommend, that way it is never underpowered.
But this is just my opinion.
I took a set of B&W 603 full size towers home and gave them a full audition, they failed. They have a nice full range, but a little weak on the low bass end ( they tended to over drive slightly, reducing the bass about 10db helped, but didnt cure ) the highs were rich and accurate, but they tended to sound like they ranged from around 6khz and up to around 22khz.(I really liked the way the 422's highs sounded) They lacked (or the crossover may be the issue) a full sound from them, causing the mids to work over time to fill in where they left off. On to the mids, WOW!
too much for my tastes! they tended to have a reverb that colored the sound causing them to hurt my ears,
and they tended to sound distorted. I pluged the rear ports on the mids and that seemed to help a little, but they were just to HOT for me.
I took the B&W 603's back. They got no sale.
Now I really like the way the 800 series sound, but that is way more than I want to spend. I ordered the Aperion 633-T's and I really hope they will appeeze my need for a clean and a clear full range sound with out the need for a sub-woofer.
Does anyone have any comments on this. Does anyone listen to music as critically or more so than me?
Has anyone listened to the B&W's and heard the same things? does the Aperios produce a smother mid range that does not produce the harshness as the B&W's?
Thank you for your comments in advance.
Tom
