    buzz noise

I'm getting a buzz noise from my speakers.  I have the 5.1 522 bookshelfls with the s-12 sub, a denon avr-3805 and a denon dvd-1910.

The system was working fine ... I played my xbox, dvd (music and video, tuner and tv.  So I was playing stereo (through tuner and tv) and digital audio (through dvd and xbox) with no problems.  All was great.   But then the noise.  It first started when I hooked up an optical cable from my tv (kd-34xbr960 with cable card) to my receiver and enabled digital audio for my tv.

I have found out that if I disconnect the sub, the noise goes away.  I can listen to stereo and digital audio from my tv through my five speakers without the buzz.  But when I hook up the sub (with power on or off), I get the noise.  Is there something wrong with the sub?

    RE: buzz noise

My guess would be that your only hearing the buzz in the sub because your crossover is passing the 60hz frequency only to your subwoofer.

Try disconnecting your RF input to your cableCard.  I'm suspecting it's a ground loop between cable TV and  your building ground.  If the buzz does go away, you will have to isolate the cable input.  Go to radio shack and buy (2) 300-75 Ohm baluns and soldering the 300 ohm leads together.  Inserting that device inline with your cable tv feed should solve your problem.

    RE: buzz noise

I recently purchased the 422/S-8 Compact Home Theater System. I have a buzzing noise coming from the subwoofer. I get this noise even when the receiver is off. If I disconnect the input to the subwoofer, the noise goes away. Is it a problem with the subwoofer?

    RE: buzz noise

Are you connected to cable television through your TV.  If you could describe your connection senario in a bit more detail, we might be able to pinpoint your problem a little faster.

Did this fix your issue?  Just curious...

    RE: buzz noise

Thanks for the replies.  I have been away from the computer.  I think the problem was a ground loop.  To temporarily solve the problem I used a 3 to 2 prong adaptor on my sub's power cord.  This eliminated the buzz noise.  I think I'll get a power center to get "cleaner" voltage.  Again, thanks ... Mark.

    RE: buzz noise

Hi! I had the same problem with a buzz coming from the speakers (422's) and sub (8" when I plugged the sub into my Denon 2805 receiver. Based on the 'temporary' fix above, I changed my sub's power cord for a 2 pronged version (I had from some old computer equipment). That has eliminated the buzz, but doesn't seem like a particularly good idea. Is there a more permanent fix? This kind of sounds like a design issue with the sub...? Thanks, Jason

    RE: buzz noise

Did you disconnect your cable TV or Satellite feed into your system and the buzz goes away?

Is your subwoofer plugged into a different phase of power than the rest of your system (use an extension cord and try a different outlet, does the buzz go away)?

If removing the grounding pin of the sub helps, you have a ground loop issue, you just need to find out where it is.  Normally it's cause by the above two issues.  Removing the grounding pin is against electrical code as well....

    RE: buzz noise

I changed back to the 3 prong plug to test. The plug is plugged in to the same power strip and outlet as the rest of the system. I disconnected the cable TV feed. Buzz still there. 2 prong, no buzz. Also, this subwoofer is part of a system replacement. I never had this problem with the previous sub (a very cheap model).

    RE: buzz noise

With your system powered up, start unplugging sources from your preamp or receiver.  When the buzz goes away, you've found the culprit.
