    Pulled the trigger

Well....I pulled the trigger...dropped the hammer...whatever Big Smile

I tried out the 533-PTs for a month but while they are very nice speakers I just couldn't get the HT rumble I wanted and there appears to be a slight dropoff at about 100hz that I noticed on some of the music I like.  Overall, I'd rate this pair as a 9 on the music scale and probably 7 for HT although the minor problems I had are most likely due to my individual tastes and room acoustics (a relatively large and asymetrical room).  Anyway, while I really liked their musicality off they went back to Aperion yesterday.  BTW, if anyone doubts Aperion's return policy don't, I had absolutely no problem.  One phone call, a couple of questions and the return shipping labels showed up in my e-mail an hour later.  Repackaged everything in the original packing with lots of tape, went on-line to FEDEX, and scheduled the pickup the next day.  Easy breezy pumpkin easy.

OK, so why the title?  Even though the 533-PT's don't suit my needs I was so impressed (sound, build quality, and customer service) I pulled the trigger on a pair of 533-Ts and 534-SSs plus a 533-VAC.  I figure the dual drivers on the 533-Ts combined with a new Outlaw LFM-1plus subwoofer (hey, it has 350watts and was on sale for the price of the S-10!) should be an outstanding combination.  As another big plus, and after a month of waiting, the new Onkyo TX-SR805 is now shipping (try J&R if you're interested) and mine'll be here in a few days.  130W, THX Ultra 2, 3 HDMI 1.3 inputs, DD TrueHD/DTS HD audio....pretty cool.  This'll be plugged into my Samsung 61" DLP, HD Cable/DVR, TiVo and Sony DVD player.  The next thing I think I'll need is a new HD player to plug up one of the remaining HDMI inputs but I'm going to wait a bit more to see if the Blu-Ray/HDDVD competition dies down with a clear winner (also gives my wallet some time to cool down).

I don't know about you guys but I know what I'll be doing next weekend.  Wife's visiting family in Texas for a few weeks and I'll have the entire house to myself and the new system. Devil

    Re: Pulled the trigger

    Hi KJ,

I hope the new system you have ordered fills in the gaps. You should find that the 533-T has better low midrange. I think this because it has a 2.5 X-Over independent of a dedicated woofer X-Over.

I have the 534’S and still experiment with BI & DI settings. I like them a lot and think you will enjoy the flexibility they provide.

I am interested in the Onkyo TX-SR805 and have dealt with J&R in the past.

I see that JR has the TX-SR805 in stock and I am just one click away. The price is fair for a new product and my trigger finger is ready.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

    Hello Jack,

I keep checking every hour to see if my 805 or speakers have shipped yet....neither are on the road yetSad  I saw a short write-up on AVS forum by a new 805 owner, it's the first real world impressions I've heard (all other discussions have been just based on specs) and the new owner seems suitably impressed.  As far as the value....well lets just say there isn't a comparable receiver out there within $500.  Also, you did add the reciever to your J&R cart to see the actual sale price didn't you?  Lets just call it a little icing on the cake.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

    Hi KJ,

I just ordered the TX-SR805 from J&R and with it’s specs, power and THX certification, I doubt there is anything out there right now that can compete at the price.

I am sure there will be others in the near future that will contend, but this appears to be a great value considering it’s new design, power and features that others do not yet have on the market.

I plan to use the TX-SR805 as my main source and my Sony STR-DE997 as Speaker B or second zone. I want to see if I can get a harmonious mix between the two receivers and set up a fully adjustable front speaker presence along with 7.1 Surround.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

Well Jack, got my 805 in yesterday.  This is my first "advanced" AVR replacing my little twenty-year-old Yamaha stereo receiver and things have changed.  A word of advice, lift from your knees.  Shipping weight is about 65 lbs about 98% of which is receiver, a real back-breaker.  With my Yamaha it was simple, plug the speaker wires into the spring clips, plug in two RCA cables from the CD and plug in the power cord and you're in business....things have changed.  Took me about six hours to get everything operating...it wasn't all the amp though as I completely did my audio rack wiring plus finished running my 5.1 cableing.  Anyway, it's an impressive AVR and my old Polks sound better than ever.  Did I say Polks?  Yeah, my Aperions don't get here until Thursday...aaarrrgggghhhhhhh.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

I am a new user to this forum and just purchased the 632 1C ceiling speakers for my home under construnction.  Since this is going in a family room the rears had to be in the ceiling.  I will be adding other aperior products.  I went to their showroom and got lots of good sugestions from Caleb.

Pardon me for what seems like a dumb questions but who is J&R?  I am assuming they are an audio store but where and how do I contact them.

    Thanks

    Re: Pulled the trigger

    Welcome David,

J&R is an online merchant where I have purchased the TX-SR805 and other components in the past.

J&R had the best price on the 805 including free shipping. I should be getting my 805 tomorrow.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

    Hi KJ,

I am supposed to get my 805 tomorrow since UPS says it is on time, but there has not been a transit update for 4 days.  I keep checking because I want to compare the 805 to my Sony STR-DE997.

I have removed all the speaker wires I will use with the 805, marked the wires and tinned the tips to aid in installation.  I now have a 2.1 system that will work independently of the 805, but I sure miss the center and all the surround sound.

I have re-arranged my stereo rack to put the 805 on the bottom shelf, the only one that could support the 51lbs.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

What's going  on here is called "nesting instinct".  It's a well known psychological response to an impending new arrival.  One caution though is to avoid the urge to paint the AV nursery....ahhh...room.  Seems those expecting should avoid exposure to oil-based paints for some reason.  BTW, I checked my FEDEX tracking and, in an unusual turn of events, the speakers are due today vice as scheduled tomorrow.   HooYahhhhhh.....damn...was that a cramp or a contraction?

"Even though the 533-PT's don't suit my needs I was so impressed (sound, build quality, and customer service) I pulled the trigger on a pair of 533-Ts "

So how did the 533Ts work out for you? I'm somewhere between them and the 633s to go with my Mission 12" downward firing sub, in a system that runs 50/50 music and movies.

I'd be VERY interested in your thoughts...
