    which center for the 533t's?

So I'm building a home theater and decided on Aperion.  I hope they look as good in real life!

Anyway, I have a small room (approx 1500cf) and I think I want the 533T.  It was tough not choosing the 633s, but for some reason, I think the 533s will sound better from reviews and stuff.  Maybe I'm way wrong but what can I say.  I can't hear 'em so... that's my choice.  Let me get to my point,  I think that the 634 center channel will sound better the the 534 center channel.  I like the size better and the fact that it has 4 active drivers and bigger woofers means deaper bass.  So my question is....

Would the 533 vac be a better match for my 5 series 7.1 surround or would I be just as good, if not better, with the 634 vac?

     towers - 533t

    center???

    surrounds - 534ss

     rears - 532lr

sub - deftech supercube II or s8-apr

Perhaps advice on subs would be good too!Smile

Thanks in advance, and I really look forward to this stuff showing up in the mail one day soon.

    Andy

Re: which center for the 533t's?

    Hello Andy,

I would go with the 533-VAC in your setup. I have owned both center channels, and currently own the 6 series center with the 633 Towers. I can't say one sounds better than the other. Do not underestimate the size of the 533-VAC, it is beefier in person... and the 6 series is almost impractical in many setups and is a very LARGE speaker (but very very cool).

I think the 6 series center would over power your 533T's when watching movies and might even be too big for your room. I would go with the 5 series center, it will match the rest of your setup quite nicely. You won't be disappointed!! If by some chance you are, you can always jump up to the 6 series within 30 days without having to pay shipping or restocking fees.

Let us know what you decide. Oh.. and they look better in person! The pics on the site do not do the speakers justice.

    Hi Andy,

I doubt that you need anything bigger than the 534-VAC. I have the 532-C and it does a fine job with my 632 and 532-switched Front Mains.

I don’t want the Center to seem more prominent than my L/R. At 0db relative to the other channels it comes on a bit strong. I have needed to lower the calibration by 5db, which provides better balance for my setup. Dialog and vocals are clear, but not overbearing.

With the newer receivers you can adjust the sound of all channels and individual speakers to meet your requirements.

Which AVR will you to be using?

The Aperion’s do have a beautiful furniture grade finish or better and have excellent build quality. You will not be disappointed.

Re: which center for the 533t's?

right now I am leaning toward onk 875 or 805.  I have heard the video scaler in the 875 is better then the faradoja (sp) in the 805.  I don't think the extra 10 watts will be a big deal.

So I guess I'm in for the 534-vac.  Good points from both of you.

How about subs???  For some reason, I think I can do better then the aperion anything.  I like the 8-apr but want to go lower in freq, which leads me to the supercube II.  Any thoughts on this or anything else.  I want the world to rumble in "Jurassic Park" when the t-rex is a commin', but also want "Drumline" snares to beat my chest in.  So I might need 2 subs and switch back and forth, but man that seems STUPID.  should be fast like an 8 and low like a 12.  Please don't say  "then go with the 10"  even though that will probably be the right call.

room is approximately 13.5 foot x 13.5 foot spare with a corner knocked of at 9 and 8 feet.  9 foot ceilings. small, small, small.  TV will be mounted on knocked off corner wall.

    Any thoughts?

Re: which center for the 533t's?

    Andy,

I have the Onkyo 805 and could not be more pleased with the price vs. performance features. I drive 8 Aperion’s with the 805 in 7.1 and 2 Aperions with a Sony AVR that supplement my front mains with input from the 805’S Pre-Out synchronized with the 805’S volume level.

The 805 will repeat up to 1080p and up-convert to 720p where the 875 will up-convert to 1080p. That was not important to me, nor was the extra 10 WPC of the 875. I find the 805 has more than enough clean power up to max volume, that may result in visits from the neighbors.

Oh, and yes I have the S-10 Sub that will produce way more bass than I need, but I want it. It may not rumble the world, but it did make it necessary to anchor all pictures, lighter items sitting on shelves and even the fireplace insert walls.

Re: which center for the 533t's?

    Hi Andy,

I think in your small room, the s-10 would be the "big" bass you are looking for. If you really want the rumble, stick that sucker close to a corner and you'll have all the bass you want, but you'll lose some of the fast beats due to the muddiness. The S-12 or anything equivelant would be too big, and in my opinion, would not sound very good in a room of your size. Remember, if you go too big, you risk getting muddy, which is when your bass notes start running together. Placement within the room will make a difference...
