    Intimus 5T?

Does anyone have any extra info on this new speaker that is replacing the 533T?  Didn't the 533T just come out 1.5 years ago?

Is it possibly just a 533T with a Kevlar instead of paper woofer?

Never heard of it. What info do you have on this 5T?  Where did you get it?

    Re: Intimus 5T?

When you go to the product screen for the 533T you get "Please Note:  The 533-T in Black is out of stock and will be replaced by the Intimus 5T.  For more information about pricing and delivery, please call us at 1-888-880-8992.  Thank you!"

    Re: Intimus 5T?

    Hi guys,

The Intimus 5T is a new and improved version of the 533-T. It features a new woven fiberglass woofer, an amazing new silk dome tweeter and a restyled cabinet. It is also a little more expensive. More information will be available next week so be sure to stay tuned to the website.

Also, I'm assuming this change is also going into the 6 series towers? yes no?

    Re: Intimus 5T?

Yes, I was told that the 633-t will also be upgraded soon and that the price points will be higher.  You can see evidence of that in the pricing of the new subwoofers.

I wonder if Aperion can comment of what the intention is behind the upgrade of the 533-t.  It it to achieve a better degree of musical reproduction?  Is it a necessary move to sync up with the sound of the new subs?  What aspect(s) of the sound are seen as having changed in the 533-t upgrade?

     Thanks

    Re: Intimus 5T?

The following from Aperion CS as quoted by a recent prospective buyer on AVS Forum.

"The 5T will be launching in mid-March and is available for pre-order now. The new 5T will feature a new tweeter that has better power handling so it won't distort at high volumes, a new fiberglass weave woofer that is both lightweight and rigid, a newly designed cabinet that improves on our already great looking tower, and finally the speaker has been re-voiced to give it an even fuller and more open sound than the current model. As the drivers are higher quality the new tower will be priced slightly higher at $495 each. As the tower really is an improvement over the 533-T we believe it is still an amazing value."

Personally, my questions would be when will they have a matching center using the new drivers and will the standard upgrade program apply to 533 owners who might want to move up?

Sounds like everything is getting upgraded.  The 532 bookshelves are being updated in a couple weeks. Only problem with this is (I voiced in another post) that it is going to cost more money to join the family.  I'm sure the new products will be kick A$$,  but can't they just leave the  older stuff around  as the value line?  Then after a year or two they can bring the prices down on the new stuff and upgrade again.

    Re: Intimus 5T?

The discontinuation of 533-T is definitely a bad news to me, as I was looking for an entry level towers. It is right at the top end of my budget. But $495 for the replacement of 533-T and $695 for the replacement of 633 is too expensive! I get to know Aperion because of so many good reviews on its price/performance ratio. With such a significant price jump on towers, I would definitely reconsider my purchase plan. If I have more than $1000 budget on a pair, I would seriously consider other decent brands, like Paradigm, first.

Personally I doubt if it is a smart move for Aperion -- they can at least keep the 533-T line.

    Re: Intimus 5T?

As a consumer I just want them to understand that it was the pefromance and price that brought me here.  I understand they want to improve,  but it shouldn't be done at the cost of customers and what has made them successful.  And the reason these speakers won some many awards is not only becuase they sound great but because of their value. Every review I read on these speakers boasts of the build quality and performance for the price.  You start dropping products out of the price range then the value might slip.  Sure the new ones sound good, but how does the ordinary man going to convince the wife to let him get some Aperions now?

"I'm delighted to have reviewed the wonderful Aperion Intimus 533-T. It has many strengths, negligible weaknesses, and is a superb value. It's visually attractive, and would fit many different décors. Finally, it's not really an "audiophile" speaker—it just sits there, plays music, and plays it well.

So if you're a man in the street who wants a pair of speakers to play a wide range of music, and if your significant other likes the Intimus 533-T's looks, why not buy a pair online? With a 30-day, no-risk return policy, how can you lose? If you want deeper bass, you can always add a subwoofer. Well done, Aperion! "

The only thing that would make up for this would be that the new 4 series will sound just as good as the soon to be obsolete 5 series.

Anyway, I think I've voiced my opinion enough regarding this matter, they are probably going to boot me off here if I don't chillSmile.  I am looking forward to receiving my award winning 532's in a couple of days.  I'm sure it will all work out in the end and I'm sure the new stuff will sound great, just a shame that for so many of us ordinary men on the street, we were depending on these already great products to stay affordable.

    Re: Intimus 5T?

New 5T is up on the Web site. Redesign is pretty subtle. Front port looks smaller and the -6dB point has gone from around 40Hz to around 60Hz. Finish seems more matte, but maybe that's just the picture.

    Re: Intimus 5T?

    In response to Stretch:

Thanks for your interest in the new 5T. We have put a lot of love into this fine speaker and are very proud of the result.

Despite the difference in the photos, the ports actually have the same internal diameter (50mm). However, the 533-T port has more "flair" than the new 5T - so it looks a little larger.

Also, it looks like we made a typo when entering the -6dB down point for the 5T on the website. It should read 45Hz. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Although the pictures do look different, the finish will be an exact match between the new Intimus 5T and the 533-T.

Thanks for the info, Matt. I look forward to hearing them. Did think the change in bass extension was a bit strange. Thought you might be trying to sell more Bravus subwoofers!

    Re: Intimus 5T?

So oddly enough I saw Aperions address on the homepage and low and behold their show-room happens to be 1.5 miles from my work.

Anyway I stopped by last week as they were unpacking the first 5Ts in the store. I got to be the first guy with demo :D (even helped with the unpacking!). Very nice guys and I was thoroughly impressed.

Now first impression of a newbie regarding the new 5T. It was very difficult for me to tell the difference with the 533. This was in two different rooms with the same songs. I'm going in again next week for a more thorough checkout as I had little time to test. The tower has certainly improved visually though. I like the new fiberglass cones as the resemble the 6 series very much. I only got to see black ones so not sure how the finish of the cherry ones has changed if at all.

Sorry if there was little useful info but I'll find out more next week as i finally decide which one to buy
