Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

I have the dual 12 preordered, along with my other 5 Aperion speakers. This will join 4 532C and the 533VAC. I went with the 4 532C, since they will be mounted horizontal. Thanks for the tip Oliver!

I am so stoked. For the $$$, I am so hoping this keeps up with the Epics/Velodyne, etc. You folks have a wonderful reputation, and I am sure that this new line of subs will live up to it. We shall see in a couple weeks! I will check in then.

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

I will be the first to comment on the appearance of the Bravus Sub’s. I think the appearance would have been more visually pleasing if the bezel surrounding the cherry finish speaker was also cherry complimenting the finish on the rest of the speaker and not blacked out to blend with the grill. The grill is fine, but the look of the cherry wood surround would have been more pleasing to me and would have made a nice contrasting look for the front of the speaker giving it a more finished look.

What is that flange, plate, strap or insert on the side of the Bravus for? I believe that also detracts from the looks of the Bravus. It looks like an afterthought even if it does serve a purpose such as an on board control of some type. I think that if it is a control keyboard or what ever it would have been better placed on the top of the speaker flush mounted without that grommet/joystick sticking out like a sore thumb such as a membrane keypad.

Oh, and that Aperion emblem stuck on the side of the Sub???

My thought about design is that this new line utilizes isobaric dual drivers aligned cone to magnet. This may be a good for a small sub trying to equal a large sub in output appealing to those who may have constraints on space. But if you don’t have space limitations, why pay more for small?

Sorry about the negative comments here but it just may be that Aperion should have asked potential buyers and current Aperion owners what they thought would be a good addition regarding the next generation within the Aperion line and not just replace the older with something newer that may not fit the needs for me but may fit your needs.

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

While I just replaced my S-10 with the new Bravus 10D because of space requirements, I do agree with Jack.  The S-10 is an incredible subwoofer for $500.  I can't imagine why Aperion doesn't offer two price point lines.  I'm sure most of us were drawn to Aperion because of value/performance.  While I'm fortunate to afford a few nice toys, I hate to see these products unattainable for others.   My $.02 anyway!

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

Unfortunately my suspicions are true.  New price point will turn off some buyers, I read this on AVSForum:

"Crap that sucks. The Aperions are at the top end of my budget and I wanted black. If the price is higher I'll probably move to ED. I also don't see the 5T, so i don't know how I can even order anything."

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

    Hi Z,

I read the link you referenced #703. Did you read #702 by pameredith?

I am just curious what you think of the look of the new Aperion subs.

I really love the looks of my 10 Aperion speakers.

My S-10 easily provides clean bass, enough to vibrate my couch and also bring the law to my door and they don’t care if the sound is clean, but may have received reports of a minor earthquake at my home.

The reference in #703 to Aperion humor regarding the year 2012, I thought was in poor taste.  I don’t have a Mayan calendar and unfortunately cannot relate to this sort of humor from a retailer trying to appeal to the masses.

I received a similar E-mail from Aperion when inquiring about the date 2012 regarding ship-dates on some speakers.

    Greetings Jack,

The date put on the website was a bit of a joke. 12/22/12 is the projected date for the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. The reason we projected the date so far out is because the speakers we have run out of are never being made again. We are making a whole new line of Intimus speakers including subwoofers. More information will be available on the website in the coming weeks, but for now I can tell you were are very excited about the new speakers. It is by far our best line to date.

Stay posted, and if you have any other questions please let us know.

    Best,

    David Bolt”

Since Aperion has received great reviews from Pro’s and Joe’s I wonder if Aperion would have been better off to continue the current line and introduce new speakers with the option of buying the enhanced more expensive line with better drivers including a tweeter that can actually handle higher power which did not seem to be a concern with the 533-T. Was the 533-T overrated in it’s power handling capability at 200 watts.

    Hey Jack,

Just a quick note here - the drivers aren't aligned cone to magnet, they're on both sides of the cabinet, aligned magnet-to-magnet.  The side of the subwoofer with the logo and display is the front, and should face the listening position.

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

I totally agree with what some of you are saying. I don't have a problem with them coming out with awesome new subs and new technology for their speakers.  However, some of these price changes are significant and if they discontinue the current lineup they will definately loose some potential buyers.  So just add a new line of top of the line speakers, but still offer the old ones that are still awesome.  The reviews and the incredable value for the money is what drew me here.  I haven't heard the new stuff but I've always thought you get to a certain quality in audio where spending more money doesn't get you that much more, ya know.   Taking away the old stuff, that got awesome reviews, and saying you have to pay more money now to get a 5 series speaker makes it harder to convince the wife and takes away some of the appeal of coming to aperion!  I seriously wanted to get a s10 sub in the future, but now I have to pay $300 for a Bravus 10".  That's significant!

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

Well said!  I latched on to Aperion because the quality to cost ratio is outstanding (as evidenced by the many reviews peppered across the 'net).  Unfortunately, I've already raised the top end of my budget to the max in order to accomodate my 'dream' system (I'm wondering if I can afford the speaker wire at this point).  Introducing a new line, with a whole new price point, without having a 'lower level' may cause many of us common folk to have to look elsewhere.

I guess you have to say, get em while they last!  Hopefully the wife will understand that by buying them now you are potentially saving $400 - $800 on a speaker system as opposed to waiting.

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

Wow dlenart, I was going to write a similar email earlier today but had to get back to work (damn work!).  My wife would have certainly never let me spend $3000 plus on speakers.  I did persuade her that $2000 was in our ball park.  I purchased my entire system (listed below) this year, so every piece was chosen carefully.  While we have thoroughly enjoyed our system, my one and only complaint was the subwoofer size compared to the size of the 533-Ts sitting next to them.  In my particular setup, it does seem "mismatched".  btw...  when my theater seats arrive, I'll upload a pic.

Jack, I'm not sure what I think about the new look-and-feel of the Bravus subs.  I was even more surprised when I read the post from Alex, "the side of the subwoofer with the logo and display is the front, and should face the listening position".  When I first viewed the sub in black, I missed the backlit digital display in green.  I also thought the sub faced differently.  I like things symmetric, so I would prefer the backlit area centered.  My sub arrives in a week, so I will certainly provide a review.  The whole Mayan thing seems a bit odd to me, I just don't share that sense of humor, especially when making high end purchases.

I did speak with customer service today, and hopefully they appreciate the feedback :-).  Dlenart's comments above confirm my belief that Aperion may lose a valuable following of budding HT enthusiasts.  Most people will probably say to get over it, but I take pride in the product Aperion produces at the price they charge.  I'm all for a higher end line from Aperion, but please keep the lower priced one as well :-)

    Anyway off my soap box.

    533-T

    533-VAC

    534-SS

    632IC

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

    Thanks!  I agree.

Here's what I ordered last night:

    533 VAC Center
    532 Bookshelves
    422 Rears

I can't afford a sub so I will use my 12" Piano Black Laquer finish Velodyne for now.

With the discontinuation of current products here's what future sales they potentially lost out on from me:
A future upgrade to the 533T's at the end of the year ($750 - $360)= $390
The purchase of an S-10 sub = $500Total=$890

The new stuff may be just too much for the wife to handle :(

BTW.  How do you like your SXRD?  I was going to get the 55" LCOS Based Sony SXRD last month for its superior image quality but it was actually the wife that wanted a Plasma to hang on the wall, talk about wow...So we went the Panansonic route 50PZ700U

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

The Sony is very nice.  The black levels are impressive.  I've had very good luck with Sony TVs in the past.  I also have a Panny 50PZ700U hanging in my family room.  You made a good purchase.

My biggest struggle was finding the correct receiver for my needs.  I started with an Onkyo 705, then the Denon AVR 2808CI, and finally settled on the Yamaha RX-V1800. If anyone is deciding between these receivers, I'd be glad to offer my $.02.

Re: They are here! Introducing Bravus Subwoofers

    I have two receivers.

Onkyo HTR 550 that came with my HTIB sR800 currently hooked up to these darn ONkyo HTIB speakers
Yamaha HTR 5250 that I've had for about 6 years that hooked up to my JBL studio series 5.1 system in my basement
Nothing to brag home about, but it's mine and it's paid for so hoepfully one of them will be serviceable for the aperions.  I do know my large JBL studio series sounds pretty darn good for movies.

I have a 50" Toshiba HD RPTV hooked up in my basement to.  I am truly blessed to have two setups :)
