    New Owner Review.

I'm by no stretch of the imagination an Audiophile, but will do my best to give my impression.  When I started my quest for a HT system, I was headed to the local big box for a Bose surround system.  I've been a member of a football forum for years, and there is a great diversity of interests there, so I posted a question for opinions on Bose.  Some were positive and others, not so much.  So I went out and started listening to speakers.  JBL, Klipsch, Def. Tech., Etc. Etc. Etc.  Bose was eliminated right away.  Not a bad sound but I could definately tell the difference when compared to nicer speakers.  I was very impressied with Monitor Audio.  Small satelites with a fantastic range and sound.  Due to their expense I figured I'd just piece it together over time.  Not really knowing anything about the brand, I posted another question and one of the replies pointed me here.  After reading about and researching, and with the 30 day trial considered, I figured I'd go for it. So I ordered 2 4T's, a 4C and an 8D.

When I first hooked them up, I wasn't immediately blown away as I expected to be.  They sounded good and put out a lot of volume for such small towers, but seemed tight and stuffy,  Given the documented need for break in, I wasn't too concerned.   Well, I can tell you know, once these things break in the difference is significant.  The sound stage has widened considerably, and they sound very light and free. The 8D is phenominal and is everything I wanted in a sub.  Very tight and defined bass with the ability to rattle the windows in my 15x18 living room. I can't say enough for how good these speakers sound. And, after listening too many different speakers, I'm confident you won't find any that sound this good without spending several times the price.  I'm running wire for side surrounds today, and will be ordering a set of 4B's to complete my system.

I might consider upgrading the 4C to a 5C when I build my new entertainment center.  Given the importance of the center channel, and thiniking it will match well with the 4T's, I might make that change.

Thanks for the review Steven, feel free to post some in the user review section of the product pages too, we appreciate it.

I'm glad to hear everything is breaking in well, just let us know if you want to swap out that center and we will do it up for you!

    It only gets better.

I am on month ten of my ownership experience and can only say good things about my Aperion system. I would echo your statement about not finding better sound without spending multiple times the money.

Depending on your listening spectrum a stronger center channel can improve your experience. Personally I like concert DVD's. Depending on the person mixing the surround seventy five to eighty percent of the dialog can come from your center channel at any given time. My 532's and 533 do a great job with the sound stage however if I had to do it again I would go for a six inch driver as I feel voices with lower resonances get reproduced more accurately on the larger diameter driver. I would recommend staying with a common driver size across your front stage. This is not as important as matching tweeters across the system however I do feel as though it should be mentioned. By introducing a slightly different frequency response you could impact your sound staging. Not as important on sides and or rears but on the fronts, myself, I would keep matched drivers and tweeters if I could.

I rethought my rethinking of the center.  The 4C is proving to be quite capable and a very good match with the 4T's.  I'm very impressed. I started Transformers the other day.  My 10 year old daughter was on the couch reading something.  I had the volume up a bit, and when Optimus Prime began to speak she nearly came out of her skin. Very powerful and I thought an excellent reproduction of his deep bass voice through the 4C.  With that in mind, i'm almost through building a custom TV-A/V stand that will have a centered pocket shelf big enough for the 4C, but not the 5C.  Due to space requirements, I couldn't make it large enough for the 5C, but I'm so pleased with the 4C, I'm not concerned.  The sound stage is very wide and pleasing as is, particularly considering my system is in a corner and the fronts are only 6' apart.  Watching a commercial the other day, a plane took off and it sounded as if it flew by me out the side of the room. I had to rewind and listen several times.  It was almost eery.

    Re: New Owner Review.

Transformers is a great movie for that deep voice test. If you have Master and Commander laying around queue up the cannon ball scene and right when they give a below deck view with the camera angle see if the footsteps happening at the deck level of the ship sound like they're coming from the upstairs of your home.  One of my favorite imaging test scenes. Gets better with side speakers but very doable in 5.1. I have made many jaws drop with my Aperion / NAD system and that scene. The intro to Revenge of the Sith is pretty good too. The Incredibles has a lot of dynamic sound in it as well.
