    Onkyo 705 problem. Help!!!

I just received my 4B's for my surrounds.  I get 'em all hooked up and the right channel barely outputs any sound.  I swap the connections on the back of the receiver to verify it's the receiver and not the speaker or wire run. It is the receiver.  I powered it off and let it sit for a few minutes.  Any suggestions.  It's passed the 30 days so I can't take it back to the store and I don't want to go without it for an exented period.  I can not believe this is happening.  UGH!!!!

    Hey Steven,

Sorry to hear that, are you sure that your levels aren't unbalanced with respect to the surrounds?

It looks like you didn't get the Onkyo from us but regardless it should still be under warranty, I believe it's 90 days for parts and labor and then 2 years for parts and you should be able to get it serviced reasonably quickly.

Just let us know if there is anything else we can do to help or feel free to give us a call or log into webchat.

    Hi Jason,

Yes, the levels are correct.   It is definately defective.  It's been less than 60 days so I'm going to Circuit City tonight to try and get them to return it. The one I bought it at is one of the ones being closed, so maybe they won't care and will take it back.  I initially bought the HK AVR-254 but there were some bugs and it was going to be more than 30 days from my purchase before a rumored firmware update was to be released. Didn't want to chance it since there was no guarentee which issues would be corrected.   I'm totally bummed.  The firmware patch is out, and it seems to be fixing a lot of the issues.  Ugh.  despair.  :)

I know Aperion is an Onkyo dealer but........why so many problems?  Shop onkyo.com has TONS of refurbished receivers......  I love the sound and value of Onkyo but my Denon 2802 is still kicking HARD.  I have never had a problem with it.  It also sounds incredible.  How much sound am I losing going through optical 5.1 DTS/DD instead of HDMI?  Are there ANY 7.1 blu-rays?  All the ones I have are 5.1.  Just my thoughts.

Ironically, I exchanged the Onkyo for a Denon 789.  It has a much better sound. The Onkyo never sounded "full" .  It always seemed dull or flat.  Pure and Direct were particularly dissapointing.  Sitting here listening in Pure mode is wonderful.  There is a tremendous difference.  If i'm moving around, playing music in 5ch. stereo is like having a concert in my living room.  Very Bubbly.  ;)   Best off all, I'm now enjoying my 4B surrounds.  Just listened to the opening scenes of Transformers.  It's a whole new experience.  I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces.

    Re: Onkyo 705 problem. Help!!!

Very true.  The Onkyo had been dropped, as the box and stryrofoam was damaged.  I rolled with it since it seemd to work ok..  My folks had an Onkyo for many years and it always sounded great.  Initially I thought some of the sound issues were just tight speakers.  It did improve with some playing time, but after hooking up the Denon, there was obviously and issue with the Onkyo.  I suspect that the surround output issue and the sound quality were related to the drop.
