    HDMI Cable (too many choices)

Need to hook up a PS3 (as soon as it arrives) to an Onkyo 876. Have looked at so many HDMI cables, I am at a loss as to why one Brand and/or Model is better than another for this purpose. If it matters any, the Ps3 is for movie watching. There are monoprice cables (didn't find any shorter versions), there are Monster GameLink cables, Monster Advances High Speed 800HD or 1000HD (more expensive than the GameLink version), assorted AudioQuest....Please someone help me figure out what will give us the best sound & picture (for under $100). Only need around 3'.

Got our TV today...Panasonic 800U 50" version. So far just hooked up to Directv through receiver. Sure beats the big old box tv we've been watching.

Thank you for any help. Rob

Re: HDMI Cable (too many choices)

Rob - buy an HDMI v1.3a cable from Monoprice.  They offer various lengths.  $10.00 or so should cover it. An HDMI cable works or doesn't work.  No advantage to a more expensive HDMI cable.  I have Monoprice cables only.  Good bang for the buck. This is an easy decision - don't sweat it.

Another good low cost alternative is www.bluejeanscable.com.  They are a little more expensive than Monoprice.

Never buy a Monster cable!  Never buy Bose speakers!  Monster and Bose prices are based on marketing hype, not performance.

Never mention Monster or Bose on any audio forum unless you are bashing them.  Otherwise, duck for cover.  Just a word to the wise Smile

Re: HDMI Cable (too many choices)

I get all my cables at monoprice.  Like Mike said get HDMI 1.3a catagory 2.  Get CL2 rated if you are going to put it in a wall.

Hey, last Saturday the wife and I went to Blue Ridge to get some apples, going through Fairmont I could of swore I heard the sweet sound of some Aperion's in the distance.

    Cheers

Re: HDMI Cable (too many choices)

I agree with Mike and Russ on Monoprice. They have a vast selection. That is where I get my cables now. Check the links below.

    Product ID: 3991
    HDMI 1.3a CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 3ft (Gold Plated Connectors

    Product ID: 4965
High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 4ft (Gold Plated Connectors)

I did get a good deal on a Monster cable from Overstock but I did not know about Monoprice at that time.

I also agree with Mike on Bose. I also have Bose, but they are out of sight hidden away in my office.

My 12 Aperions are proudly displayed in plain view.

Re: HDMI Cable (too many choices)

I was at my local Circuit City the other day.  They have discounted their branded HDMI cables by 50%.  I have one of their cables - they didn't jack up the price so they could cut it in half.  This is part of the liquidation sale. I didn't see much else that was a deal.

If you're in a hurry to get connected and you have a Circuit City nearby take a look.  It might be a bit more than a deal you can find online but there's no shipping (although you will pay sales tax).

I also shop at Monoprice for all my cabling needs.  Fast shipping and good products at a great price...You really don't need to spend $50 on an HDMI cable.

Also, if you were planning on mounting that TV on the wall don't be afraid to check out their Wall mounts for $25:

i ordered me one. Saved about $50 and it works like a charm!

Re: HDMI Cable (too many choices)

    Thanks Guys!

I've used monoprice a lot for stuff and considering their low prices have wondered about the quality. Reading all your comments, guess I need not worry about that. Only problem is, y'all must have bought up all the short lengths of hdmi cable.Hmm Might try one of those bluejeans cables later, but being in a hurry (wife is actually the impatient one), monoprice has been pretty quick so went with them. Ordered a 6' cable "in stock".

***Dan, I purchased a monoprice heavy duty wall mount which worked fine, (except for two little screws on one side which secure the lower bracket). Added a screw below those frozen ones, so "no problem". That thing isn't going anywhere, unless it gets hit by a tornado. Sure one heck of a great price compared to everywhere else I looked.

***Russ, when you drove through Fairmount, did you happen to run into my wife in town? If you heard the Aperions from there, she probably wasn't at home at that time.

***Joe, we live far enough out that to hit any big stores = at least a half day spent. So, except for food we buy almost everything online these days. For us country folk, that's a good thing though.

As for Bose, I admit I have a pair Embarrassed in my little gym in the basement. Hooked up to an old receiver with equaly old CD carousel. They were an upgrade from an even older, really bad, all-in-one stereo that didn't even exhibit a Brand name on it.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Rob

Am I the only person who uses Parts Express?  Great cables for unbeatable prices!  I am using one of the inexpensive cables from my PS3 to my Vizio, and it looks incredible.  Dayton is the brand and they have quite a few to choose from.  Check it out at Partsexpress.com.

    Good luck, Roger.
