Hi David, glad you're enjoying your system. For the meter, it's not at all important where the db reading is as long as you adjust the individual speaker levels so they're the same db reading for all the speakers. Volume will be relatively unimportant as well; just get it loud enough so it registers something for the meter to read. ...

PJ: Yeah, sorry...didn't mean to indicate that they operated the same. I meant, rooms need treatments, so take the room you've got and treat it, rather than wondering about the difference between a few feet. That's all.
I concur that:
rectangular untreated > square untreated
rectangular treated > ...

Scott E.:So in this scenario, where would the best place be to put your left and right speakers? Is there a ratio for distance from rear to side walls?
Yes. Generally the rule of thirds is a great place to start if you have the flexibility with placement options; try putting your tweeters at the 1/3 points along both width/length axis. if ...

It will definitely depend on what you're looking to add; if it's just more bass than you have now, the 8D will do it--their low end compared to the 6Ts are pretty similar. If it's deeper extension you're after, I'd really recommend at least the 10D or the 12D for noticeably better low end response and bass that you can feel as ...

+1, I can't get over how great this movie sounds and looks--definitely the best sounding demo disc we have here so far. Even the surround effects in the beginning are incredible, and the bass! Crazy, crazy deep bass.

Forgot to also add that if you have only 6.5" of space, it's good to have some clearance above the receiver for proper ventilation; is it 6.5" of space, or do you have a bit more than that?

If it has to be a receiver, I'd also recommend looking at the Marantz slimline receiver, the NR1501. Audioholics recently did a review, which you can find here:

Agreed, the 10D will definitely play deeper and with a more visceral impact in that room. However, the output capabilities of either sub should be more than enough. And with the 30 day in home audition period, PJ's recommendation would be a great way to try them both out to compare.
Thanks for your interest,

Sweet! I love watching sports in HD on the system, though my viewing is mostly limited to F1, MotoGP, cycling, and soccer. But the World Series sure looks great!
