Having auditioned both (however not side to side) I think I can give a pretty opinion here....
I am curious as to which model in the 700 series you are looking at. The 704 is definitely the closest to the 633, and the overall differences are minimal. They both have good SQ with a slight edge in favor of the 704 as it is a bit more accurate, ...

The Fifth Element is a good one.
I also like to use Spider-Man 2.
and a few scenes from The Matrix are good.

too warm?
that depends on what you like.
being that the Aperions are slightly warm at most, and the Pioneer Elite receivers are also slightly warm I doubt you'd end up with an overly warm (midbassy) sound.
personally, I tend to prefer a little warmth which is why I intend to pick up one of these receivers soon. of all the receivers I have ...

That Rotel amp is excellent. It can push some large speakers, so it should have no problem at all running your surround system much better than your Denon receiver has. No doubt you will be very impressed with the difference. It will give you a true 100x7 which is more real power than what your receiver is capable of.
I actually had the pleasure ...

that Elite receiver is very good for the price. I listened and compared to some receivers that cost a bit more and it held it's own.
others to consider would be offerings from Yamaha, Marantz, or maybe Denon if you're looking for some extra features.

I asked a shop about this the other day....
They suggested trying each option for upconversion because some do work better than others-in some cases the receiver did the best job, others the TV itself did the best job, and once the DVD player was superior. That DVD player, they said, was the Elite Blu-Ray player. Now this response is based on ...

that is rather strange.
I'd keep an eye on it and if the problem comes back contact Aperion customer service. They'll be able to help ASAP.

I was in Magnolia Home Theatre (the little boutique inside a few of the newer Best Buy stores) yesterday looking at new receivers (Elite and Yamaha, respectively) and couldn't help but get drawn in to watching the Blu-Ray version of Planet Earth. The picture was incredible. Of course this was probably helped by the fact that it was displayed ...

well, lets see how well I can remember....
the bookshelf speakers were some midrange Boston Acoustics mated with the Aperion S-8 APR subwoofer. The speakers were capable of 80 hz and up, so I set that as the Xover point on the sub along with setting my receiver for small speakers (which means Xover at 80hz). Realistically, this is too high for ...

having had both types of setups, I would take a pair of towers any day over the bookshelf/sub combo.
also, I can say that the 533-T is a nice tower, not too big, with good imaging and soundstage.
to enhance the soundstage and fill in the low end you could always add a sub later on.
