holy mother of soundtracks! i'm not going to spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it but i can tell you this; the blu-ray audio transfer is impeccable!
there is a scene where a plane comes crashing to the ground wiping some cars off the road and creating a series of explosions. i actually had to rewind that scene three ...

Hello all,
I just put in an order for a 12D to compare to the 8D that I already have (in my trial period). Would someone please recommend movies (Blu-ray preferably, DVD fine too though I don't usually actually watch those anymore) that might make the differences clear?
Jason Hicks suggested Iron Man and Transformers. I did see the thread on ...

Hey Jason,
I just tested some things out.
When I walked into the sound room, our Xbox360 was feeding digital audio out to the receiver via an optical connection. I turned off the TV and nothing happened. This is what I expected.
I then turned on the Blu-ray player half expecting the Onkyo to switch to the Blu-Ray input. It did not. I ...

I bought an HP S3430F Slimline HTPC and I've been setting it up today. Comes with the LG Blu-Ray / HD DVD combo drive, 4 GB RAM, AMD Quad processor, wireless internet, remote control, TV card etc. It is a powerful little box, one-third the size of a desktop PC, so it fits nicely in my A/V credenza. I also bought a long range wireless ...

I find it interesting that it has been over 10 months since my original post, and I still am hard-pressed to name a PS3-only game that is a must-have - for me anyway.
Well, maybe now that HD-DVD is essentially dead, I might get a PS3 as a Blu-ray player that can play games too....
Of course, if Microsoft wants to continue its ...

That's a great question, Ken. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray couldn't have deployed at a weirder time in the home entertainment industry. DVD is well established and extremely popular with consumers - and we all know that 'good enough' is just fine, and DVD is still 'good enough.'
I think that both HD DVD and Blu-Ray ...

I played a demo of DiRT for the 360. When I played the buggy track, I was thinking that it was a lot like MotoStorm. Sure it doesn't have the all-out chaos that MotoStorm has. But it was a lot of fun nonetheless.
Hmmm. Now that a nice substitute for MotoStorm is coming for the 360, I am finding it even harder to ...

PS3 with Blu-Ray is the type of move that will be viewed as brilliant if it succeeds, or incredibly stupid if it fails.
Concerning Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD - I think both will have difficulties catching on with consumers. No one wants to end up with the format that loses, and many don't even understand the difference between these new formats and the ...

The PlayStation 3 will also play Blu-Ray movies. Needless to say, millions will buy the PS3 when it is released this fall for the games, and the Blu-Ray is an added benefit. I am not sure that there will be nearly as many HD-DVD players sold at that point (especially if most movie consumers are waiting to see which format will ...

As you alluded to, there are many factors that go into a purchase decision, quality being one of them. Looking back to VHS vs Beta, clearly the lower quality format won. The consensus appears to be for the following reasons: lower cost, more options on devices (Sony vs the world), more content (once they figured out that playback of ...
