  • Re: Who buys SACDs?

Hey Ya'll,  Thought I would jump in here. SACD has been, IMHO, dying since it came out. To be sure it's been slowly fizzling out for  the last 4 years. It is certainly higher quality than standard CD and, as you noted JonL, is capable of Multichannel (thought SACDs often come in stereo mixes only) Fry's is my local ...

  • Re: turntable newbie

Hi Delvalle,  Oliver really is the resident vinyl expert, but I think I'll jump in here and help. A turntable puts out an extremely low level signal- anywhere from 2.0-5.0 mV (millivolts). This is due to the cartridge that your stylus (or needle) sits in. Since this signal is too low for the average stereo input on a receiver, a phono ...

So it looks like the living room is the way to go.  I'm ...
  • mp3s and new music formats - itunes, etc.

This was inspired by the CD's vs. vinyl debate... How do you feel about mp3's vs. CD's? I've been very happy with the ability to buy music online, etc, but I can't help but notice a difference between mp3s and CD's, especially on a high-quality system like my aperions!  I'm considering an ipod, but I don't have much experience with ...

  • CD vs. Vinyl -- which do you prefer?

I saw this on another forum and figured it'd be a good discussion here. Personally, I prefer vinyl for overall sound quality. I also think vinyl has a warmer, more natural feel than CD. On the other hand, CD is convenient.
