My current tower speakers are about the same height as the Forte towers, but they rest on 8" wood stands. I have a set of Forte towers on order, and wonder if I should place them directly on the ground – or if raising them up will benefit any.

The closer the tweeters are to ear level, the better. If 8" stands get you there, then great. If not, leave them on the ground.

Indeed, ear level, or close to, is always recommended. However, with our Fortes, their frequency response remains fairly stable through a larger vertical window than most speakers, so even if they're a bit below your ear level they should sound great. I have the Fortes in the home theater rig at home, and I'm probably a good 6" above the tweeters, and they sound really, really awesome [:D]
