Hi all, I have owned an S-12 for several years and have loved it. Recently, I was having issues with my HT receiver with speaker channels dropping off. At this time, the S-12 stopped working, so I figured it was a receiver issue. I just replaced the receiver with a Marantz 5004, and am still having issues with the S-12. I am getting very very low output from it. If I crank the knobs on the S-12 all the way to the right, and max the subwoofer output settings on the receiver, I can barely hear some output on the S-12. I read about a test here on the forum, and have performed it. I hooked a CD player directly to the S-12 and again, can hear some output, but it is low volume. I also took an MP3 player and hooked that up, again with the same result. However, it is louder than what I am getting through the receiver. Should the output be a lot louder? I did use a couple of tracks that have a lot of low frequency. Any advice would be greatlyt appreciated, since I am looking forward to finally having a fully operaitonal Home Theater once again. |

Hello there, Sorry to hear about the trouble with the sub. If you are getting only a little bit of sound out of the S12 with a CD player hooked up directly to it and the level knob maxed out then it sounds like their is indeed a problem with the amp. When the level knob is up all the way on the sub it should pretty much be ear splittingly loud. If you have had it for several years it is probably out of warranty as the sub amp warranty is three years, but if you give us a call at 888-880-8992 we can sell you a replacement amp at our cost. I hope that helps, thanks! |

Dennis or Jason H, I have the same issue and also need a replacement amp for my S12 sub. I’m told Aperion has stopped making this model and I can’t get the make/part# to find the correct replacement amp. Did either of you retain this information? |

Hello there, That amp was a proprietary design so there isn’t a universal part number that you could use to get the same amp from another supplier. It was a 250 watt class A/B amp so if you find an amp with that rating and the same plate dimensions as the S12 amp then that should do the trick. The real challenge is finding an amp plate the right size. The amplifier for that model was 10.5″ by 10.5″. This one is close, but is a bit too tall at 12.5″ http://www.apexjr.com/Apexsenior.htm However if you drilled some pilot holes it may work. I have not tried it myself so I can’t make any guarantees as to how it would turn out. If you do order it, make sure you get the version without the remote control since you wouldn’t be able to use it to control the sub without installing the extra plate with the infrared sensor. I hope that helps but please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks! |

You might try this one: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-803 It’s approximately 10″ x 10″, 250 Watt class A/B amp and might fit OK in your sub. I used the previous model of this amp in a sub I built and it works well. |

Did you ever get a replacement amp that worked? I also have a S-12 that has a blown amp and would like to fix it. |

Dave, Sadly, it keeps moving down my things to do list, which gets longer by the day. I’ll be sure to post a follow-up once I finally get this done and let you know how it works. Good luck with yours. |
