Intimus 534-SS Dipole-Bipole Surround Speaker

$245.00ea.

Please note:  The Intimus 534-SS is no longer available and has been replaced by the Intimus 5D.  Please click here for pricing and availability information.

What sets our surround sound speaker apart from the crowd? For starters, the 534-SS features a switchable dipole/bipole design that fills your home theater with the immersive sound that only a dipole/bipole speaker can provide. The dipole (out of phase or indirect) mode offers a diffuse sound field that some experts recommend for immersive home theater audio. Switch them to bipole (in-phase or direct) mode and enjoy multi-channel music or home theater installations that require placement behind the listener.

Get the flexibility of two speakers in a single elegant package. Immerse yourself in surround sound with the Intimus 534-SS dipole/bipole surround speaker and never make compromises in your home theater.

After installing my new system (Oknyo TX-SR805 receiver and Aperion speakers) it took a little getting used to.

Thanks to excellent speaker design and performance, and the placement lesson learned from the Aperion University section of this site, the Intimus 534-SS delivers a level of performance we were not used to in our old system.

While playing a tactical shooter on the XBOX 360, my 18 year old son was pretty startled when he heard someone beside him only to learn that it was an in-game character. Inversely, while spending a Saturday morning playing “Bioshock” (and yes, it does qualify as art), I heard the sound of a would-be attacker coming from stage left only to have my wife tap me on that shoulder and say “Are you going to help me unload the groceries, or what?” While the primary function of this speaker in my system (I have 3 in a 6.1 set-up) is to provide the surround function, they are capable of so much more. When listening to music, I actually tend to use the “All Channel Stereo” setting on my Onkyo. While this may appall some 2 channel purists, the 534-SS does an outstanding job of musical reproduction and provides an immersive musical experience. It is a good thing for me as I don’t sit equidistant between my two main speakers and look straight ahead while I listen to music. Therefore the “music everywhere” approach works for me. No kidding, these things sound great and are true full-range speakers. The design is excellent for mounting on the wall and connections are pretty easy given the cable channel that runs the vertical length of the speaker so you can approach from top or bottom. The finish on these speakers is beautiful and they arrive in excellent packing materials.

Great 5.1 sound immersion

Bought a pair of these in 6/07. As with the other Aperion speakers I bought at the time, these have great clean sound, solid construction, and a beautiful "grand piano" black enamel finish. I have no complaints.

While I'm watching movies, I'm regularly treated to being faked-out by realistic sounds that I think may be coming from somewhere in the room other than the speakers. Usually, I don't notice the speakers unless I pay close attention to where the sound is coming from. They do a super job dispersing the rear channel sound. In the past, I've had rear channel speakers that have been distracting. These speakers are not distracting at all. One tip for anyone buying these: don't plan on using banana-plugs to connect the wires to the speakers themselves; there is a good connection space for the wires, but not enough to allow a flush fit to the wall with banana plugs. Wires connected with the screw down terminals have worked flawlessly.

SIMPLY THE BEST!!

Whether I am cranking a movie, listening to a concert, or playing my PS3, these speakers blast clean, crisp sound. The performance of these speakers are second to none and friends are consistently asking me what type of speakers they are, followed by guesses of overpriced competitors. Many are surprised by the performance when I mention that they are made by Aperion. Aperion is definitely worthwhile and a tremendous bargain. However, don't let the price fool you. The quality is at par and in MANY instances, better than the overpriced stuff you see in hi-end stores or online. Hard to believe, try it yourself and you too will be amazed.

Perfect fit

I have the 534-SS dipole/bipoles mounted behind the front seats and in front of the rear seating area in my home theater. They work perfectly in this position. I generally keep them in the bipole mode since I mainly only use them while watching movies. Whether in the front seats or in the rear, the sound is behind you! They reflect off the back wall nicely for those seated in the rear and do not sound like they are in front of them. Very nice!

My daughter asked why the speaker looks different than all of the others. My response, "It IS different than the others."

The unique look offers an even more unique sound. Placed at head level in my theatre, I love to watch guests look to their left and right during movies and sporting events as the sounds are so real. You'd swear you were at the game or on the set as these units produce incredible sound and complement the Center Channel like Yin and Yang.

Unorthodox shape looks cool and sounds even better

I chose this speaker partly because of the odd looking shape which also, I believe, serves to better disperse the sound in the room and partly because of the dipole/bipole feature (which I've actually not used all that much because I'm too lazy to remove the covers and switch them). Originally, I intended to mount them to the sides of the listening area but had to mount them to the rear due to some quirks in the room. But I have to say that they sound great where they are. My girlfriend and I were watching "The Hills Have Eyes 2" and she got scared because you could actually hear the ogres walking around beside you and behind you. Pretty creepy! Super reproduction of the sound effects in movies. Also helps with hearing dialogue from TV shows to movies to the news, as well as improving ambient sound when watching concert videos. Recommended, highly, seriously. Did I mention that they look cool on the wall?

I'm using the 534-SS as part of the following (used with an Onkyo TX-SR703):

533-T towers,
634-VAC center,
534-SS dipole/bipole side surrounds,
632-IW rear surrounds,
S-10 sub

The 534-SS helps to completely immerse you in movies, giving an all-around surround without being distracting in the least. HIGHLY recommended!

The bipole/dipoles are like two pairs of surround speakers in one - directing the sound in two different directions creating an even more immersive surround sound experience. Ambient sounds should not be a sound you can easily localize with your ears and these speakers help to make the sound feel like its coming from everywhere.

I had to have the best HD TV. This meant I had a tough job waiting for the speakers that I was going to add. These little babies are doing the job. I love it when missiles whiz pass my head from my 532s front to my 534s behind me. I couldn't be happier!

Superb surrounds for the price

You just can't get better surround speakers for the price, especially dipole/bipoles. I'm not sure if I'm using mine the most effective way, but I don't have the best living room layout to take full advantage of these amazing speakers. The folks at Aperion were real helpful in taking a drawing I did of my living room/dining area & giving me suggestions for where to put them. Plus I've got them connected to a Kenwood RFU-6100 wireless transmitter/receiver set so I don't have to run wires under the carpet, which would be hard to do in military housing. It gets the job done, but it's not ideal. I can't wait to have a better room set up to put these to better use, because I think I could get better Dolby/DTS/THX surround sound with my Onkyo THX receiver. Only time will tell.
