What a great surround speaker!
James K. - December 05, 2008
Great sounding, compact size, easy mounting. I read the reviews before ordering this speaker and I totally disagree with the size and mounting issues others have had. All comparable dipole/bipole speakers I have looked at and owned are larger that these, especially switchable ones. The mounting hardware is quite simple and secure. I was able to mount them without scratching the speakers or walls and it was very easy. As for the sound, just great, these speakers are perfect for surrounds if placed properly. If you cannot mount these speakers close to the suggested placement I would look at the satellites instead. Overall I am very happy with these speakers and would order them again.
Great Speakers, Great Sound

I have been using the Intimus 5DB Dipole/Bipole Surround Speakers as my side surrounds for a little over three months now. They sound great! Properly placed, these speakers create a massive sound field. They are excellent for 5.1 as they can create sound throughout the whole rear and sides of the room and they work great as side surrounds for 7.1 as they are able to expand the sounds on the side to blend with the rear speakers. I would recommend these speaker to anyone looking for great rear or side surround speakers!
Another superb di/bi surround w/one small annoyance

I already owned a pair of 534-SS di/bi surrounds as part of a 5.1 Aperion system. I added these as the surrounds and moved the 534s to the rear surrounds. Again, superior sound quality for the price, just as I've come to expect from Aperion.
I'm really loving the improved sound field that comes with a 7.1 system & I'm looking forward to trying out some THX material with my THX Select2 Onkyo receiver and these di/bi speakers. With the 4 di/bi speakers, I get a real nice surround sound field that truly adds to the listening experience.
My only gripe with these speakers is the mounting hardware - I'd have to give those an 'F.' Really a PITA to mount, not to mention you end up scratching up both your wall and the back of the speaker. I much prefer the older mounting system in the 534s - please go back to that setup - it's so much easier to put the speakers on the wall! Overall though, I'm very happy with my purchase & my 7.1 Aperion system.
Good sound but too big for me

Honestly, I loved the look of these speakers. They are consistent with the rest of the Aperion line that I have received.
But, even doing the initial measurements in my head to determine where I would want the speakers, when they arrived, they were simply too big. I put them on the wall at their Aperion suggested listening point and they sounded... okay. To be honest, they were not worth the amount of space they took up on the wall and in the room. And at the price your paying, you can get nearly 3 satellite speakers for the price of 1 DB speaker. I might go with a 7.1 system and get two satellites for rear surround in the future, but these speakers were simply too big, and I'm sorry to say it.
I returned them and am awaiting a shipment of Aperion satellite speakers to take their place.
If it is as good as its predecessor...

I own the most recent version of the dipole/bipole. Great speakers. They really make my family room sound like I am in a movie theatre. If these new versions are as good as the series it is replacing, then you can't go wrong.
