Clean, powerful, precise, with a few little nagging issues

Name: mpoole
Rating: 5
Date: Friday, June 05, 2009
Comments: Details: Two 6Ts in the front, 6C in the center, Bravus 12D rock crusher, and four 5DBs on the back and sides, hooked to a Samsung 67-inch LED, driven by an Onkyo SR806 at about 130 watts per channel, sitting in a 20'x20' carpeted room with an 8' ceiling.

Comments: Woof! This is an amazing sound system that performs exactly as I expected it to. Regardless of the source, it has clarity, punch and nuance, depending on what's called for. The soundstage is very wide. You'll hear things down in the mix of your favorite DVDs and CDs that you've never heard before, which is a good thing. And after a few months of use, the system absolutely bloomed, and gained more depth, response, nuance and power on everything from Beethoven to Green Day. I would not hesitate to recommend the Aperion product, staff or overall experience to anyone.

However, there were a few issues along the way. The 12D that came with the group was defective, and was obviously a returned item that somehow made it into my package. One of the hanging brackets for the 5DBs was inferior. The screws shipped with the brackets did not fit into the back of the 5 DBs. The SPL meter shipped with the unit was defective. But in all cases, the Aperiion staff was helpful and solved all these issues quickly.

Regarding the Onkyo (which I did not purchase from Aperion), be careful. The unit performs beautifully, but I had to replace the whole HDMI board less than two weeks after purchasing it. It was done under warranty, but the technician said that Onkyo was aware of the problem, but was shipping the units to market anyway.

Overall, Aperion's great customer service overcame the nagging little issues and their products are great. I cannot imagine ever owning a better sound system and I would not hesitate to recommend Aperion to anyone looking for what I believe is the ultimate sub-$10,000 home audio system.
