Best of 2011 Award from Home Theater Review

Professional Review Verus Grand Tower Speaker December, 2011

Best Affordable Speaker Winner: Aperion Audio Verus Grand

"The Aperion Audio Verus Grand look like Revels, cost less than Paradigms and are sold Internet-direct for well under $2,000. They have the audiophile chops to compete with any brand at the audio salon; they just don’t come with the audiophile attitude."

PC Gamer auditions Zona in a PC-gaming speaker shootout

Professional Review Aperion Zona® Wireless Speaker System September, 2011

"The Zonas have a beautiful 4.5-inch woven-fiberglass woofer, accompanied by one-inch tweeters encased in a thick, heavy casing. Each speaker weighs about 15 pounds, so they feel tough enough to last an ice age. The result is a beautiful-looking -- and sounding -- set of speakers that don't suffer from the interference that often plagues wireless sets."

"Most audio through the Zonas is beautiful. Razor-sharp highs and warm, rich mid-bass creates beautiful aural imaging."

- PC Gamer Magazine, October 2011 Issue. Available on newsstands.

Soundstage.com gives the Verus Grand Bookshelf their Reviewer's Choice Award!

Professional Review Verus Grand Bookshelf Speaker September, 2011

"As the first bookshelf model I’ve reviewed in I don’t know how long, Aperion Audio’s Verus Grand Bookshelf reminded me that great things can still come in small packages. The Bookshelf isn’t just a fine-sounding speaker, it’s a refined-sounding speaker that doesn’t offer only a glimpse of high-end performance -- it’ll take you on a full tour and give you a T-shirt at the end. With a beguiling tweeter and a clean, overachieving midrange-woofer, the Verus Grand Bookshelf proves that its name is no oxymoron. It’s a speaker well worth an audition and its asking price. And it looks fabulous."

Audioholics Review of the Verus Grand Bookshelf Speaker

Professional Review Verus Grand Bookshelf Speaker August, 2011

Pros:
Pristine fidelity
Furniture grade finish
Excellent craftsmanship

Cons:
Limited bass output
Raises the bar too high for the competition

"The Aperion Verus speakers were able to literally disappear leaving you with nothing but the music to get carried away in. These speakers performance per dollar ratio is so good that I fear Aperion has raised the bar too high for its competition. These aren’t just speakers, they are pieces of furniture that sound good. Considering their very liberal return policy, FREE 30 day home trial program and FREE shipping (both ways) I can’t say anything else other than 'highly recommended!'"

Home Theater Magazine Gives the Verus Grand Tower Hybrid XD a "Home Theater Top Pick"!

Professional Review Verus Grand Tower XD August, 2011

At a Glance:
Superior left-center-right uniformity
Excellent imaging and depth
Outstanding value

Ratings:
Performance:4.5 out of 5
Value:5 out of 5
Build Quality: 5 out of 5

"The Verus Grand Towers continued to impress me on two-channel music...The Verus Grand Towers’ reproduction of detail was exceptional on good source material. With everything from the gentle sound of a brushed cymbal to the liveliness of a good vocal recording, they left little or nothing on the table. Imaging and depth (when captured in the recording) were also consistently convincing."

"With all 5.1 channels cooking, the result was superb. Dialogue, source permitting, sounded right. There was no evidence of an intelligibility-robbing, off-axis response suckout in the Verus Grand Center, which also stood up without complaint against the onslaught of action-heavy soundtracks. From Flight of the Phoenix (2004) to Star Trek (2009), nothing fazed either the Verus Grand Center or the rest of the system."

Wired Magazine Fetish article on the Aperion Intimus 4T Summit System

Professional Review NEW! Aperion Intimus 4T Summit Wireless 5.1 System July, 2011

"The two biggest hassles with setting up surround sound: cables and calibration. The Aperion Intimus 4T Summit Wireless 5.1 system fixes both, with audiophile-friendly uncompressed streaming and ingenious sweet-spot technology. Where most wireless setups squeeze everying until Top Gun on Blu-ray comes out sounding like Airplane on VHS, Aperion uses the same high-speed frequencies as radar systems to stream audio in all its uncorrupted glory. Each individually powered speaker houses multiple amps and crossovers, so you can ditch the A/V receiver along with the cables. Place the speakers wherever you want and a hub unit auto-calibrates it all. Then hit the MyZone button on the remote and the sweet spot shifts to wherever you're sitting. You can hear it move."

Wired: Uncompressed 24-bit, 96-kHz audio. Sweet spot moves to you, not the other way around. Tired: Line of sight required between speakers for accurate calibration. Seven power cords to plug in around the room.

- Michael Calore, August 2011 Issue of Wired

Home Theater Review Evaluates the Verus Grand Bookshelf

Professional Review Verus Grand Bookshelf Speaker July, 2011

Performance: Four out of Five Stars
Value: Four and a Half out of Five Stars
Overall Rating: Four and a Half out of Five Stars

"For just under $600 a pair and sold direct via their own website, the Aperion Audio Grand Verus Bookshelf loudspeakers are an absolute delight for they have a finish indicative of Revel Salon2s with a sound equal in tone and musicality to their costlier siblings, the Verus Grand Towers. While they need a subwoofer or two to go full-range and require stands to sound their best, the Grand Verus Bookshelf loudspeakers are still a value leader and among the best in their class. "

Home Theater Review Evaluates the Verus Forte Satellite Speaker

Professional Review Verus Forte Satellite Speaker July, 2011

Performance: Four out of Five Stars
Value: Four out of Five Stars
Overall Rating: Four out of Five Stars

"It's hard to fault a speaker that sells direct for $350 a pair and looks and sounds as good as the Verus Forte Satellite loudspeaker does. Sure they don't have subterranean bass nor do they possess earth-shattering dynamics but as surround sound speakers, they're phenomenal and even as stereo mains in smaller rooms they'll impress - especially when it comes to vocals. Plus, when you consider you get a 30-day, risk free trial to see if they're you're cup of tea, there isn't much risk in deciding if the Verus Forte Satellite loudspeakers are right for you."

David Pogue's New York Times review of the Intimus 4T Summit Wireless System

Professional Review NEW! Aperion Intimus 4T Summit Wireless 5.1 System July, 2011

David Pogue from the New York Times recently tested out and assembled a team of audiophiles to put our Intimus 4T Summit Wireless system through its paces. Here's what David had to say:

"The next setup step is so much fun, you'll want to do it over and over again. On one speaker, you press the Associate button. The speakers now communicate with each other, exchanging information about their number (five or seven speakers), distance and relative positions. This information is transmitted using ultrasonic sound waves, so it won't bother anybody but the bats. And that’s it. Your speakers are now fully calibrated and adjusted, immersing you in delicious surround sound.

For its final trick, the Aperion system offers an instant sweet-spot-repositioning feature. With regular surround- sound, you always have to sit in one exact spot to derive the maximum benefit of your speakers. You eventually wear a hole in your couch."

"Now, if you’re used to the speakers on your TV, or even a $500 home-theater-in-a-box system, you’ll think that this system sounds amazing. I sure did. When I played the cannon-battle sequence of “Master and Commander” (DVD Chapter 4), I expected plaster to start raining down from my ceiling."

"They were, however, unanimous on one surprising point: the Aperions sound the same or better than wired speaker systems in the same price range — for example, from Sony, Yamaha, Boston Acoustics or Bose."

"The Aperion Intimus 4T Summit Wireless 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System may have the longest name in the business, but it deserves to. The speakers look great, sound fantastic, eliminate wires, do away with calibration, obviate the need for a receiver and keep the sound balanced when you change seating positions.

And they take away more pain points than a whole bottle of Advil."

- David Pogue, New York Times, July 2011

Electronic House Reviews Zona and Scores the System 5 out of 5

Professional Review Aperion Zona® Wireless Speaker System May, 2011

Rachel Cericola evaluated the Zona Wireless speaker system, and dug up what other pro’s were saying about Zona around the web, and compiled thoughts into this article in Electronic House.

"Some things seem to be too good to be true. In the case of Aperion's Zona wireless speaker, it's true and pretty terrific. Just a few years back, wireless speakers would be something that most people would scoff at—like a novelty to be sold in the back of comic books. Well, comic book ads aren't what they used to be, and neither is wireless technology. While there are plenty of speakers worthy of $500, there's certainly something to be said for not having to tear into Sheetrock and fishing wire. Aperion is a hearty contender for your audio dollars on any day, so we are excited to see them getting into the wireless arena and actually making it work. Big Picture Big Sound Gives the "Biggie" Award to the Verus Forte Speakers

Professional Review Verus Forte Tower Speaker May, 2011

"In a world where we rely on communicating through third parties, it's nice to see a company that actually wants to rub elbows with its customers. Maybe they just love to be loved, because Aperion's Verus Forte Speaker Line has exactly the types of products you'll want to call them up and thank them for."

"...you can be assured that the value that these speakers offer is already exceptionally high, so the cash you invest in a Verus Forte system is indeed money well spent."

Home Theater Review Evaluates Aperion Zona Wireless Speaker System

Professional Review Aperion Zona® Wireless Speaker System April, 2011

Jim Swantko, of HomeTheaterReview.com, recently test drove the Zona Wireless Surround system. He praised the fit & finish, sound quality, and acknowledged why the User Guide for this wireless system is unexpectedly small.

"...was pleased to find that simply plugging in the USB cable resulted in music. It could not have been simpler as there were no settings to change, no drivers to install, nothing. I was also very happy to find that that the system worked as easily with Windows XP as it did with the Windows 7 operating system. I was beginning to understand why the user's manual was so small."

"Two of the choppers are massive twin rotor Chinooks whose blades thump through the air as they pass from right rear to left front. Again I felt that the Zona speakers added another level of believability to the action. The Zona speakers performed just as well with high frequency passages such as creating the unmistakable pings of spent cartridges hitting concrete, and boots shuffling across gravel. The system did what all quality surrounds do which is to immerse the viewer in the scene. They shined especially bright during dynamic sequences."

"The Aperion Zona system is an audio version of a Swiss-Army knife. Its flexibility is limited by the users imagination, and proximity to a power outlet. I found myself moving the speakers to various locations of my home including the garage, and backyard (Zona are not outdoor speakers by design) and found that they operated flawlessly through several walls and over wide distances. Couple these speakers with an on-line radio service such as Pandora and an iPod and you have very little need for any other audio gear."

MyMac.com Raves about Aperion Zona Wireless Speakers

Professional Review Aperion Zona® Wireless Speaker System April, 2011

"Aperion Audio’s Zona Wireless Surround Speaker System is the best wireless speaker setup we have had the pleasure to use. Zona delivers top quality audio reproduction with every source device from iOS to computer, from stereo system to home theatre."

"Zona Speakers from Aperion Audio are the first speakers ever to pass Nemo’s ultra-stringent SWEEP test. SWEEP stands for Suspicious Wife Enjoying Evaluation Product. My long-suffering spouse insists these Zona speakers are the solution to her ongoing quest for portable, wireless, top quality, easy to use and attractive playback of her iPod touch’s Pandora and MOG Internet radio stations whether she is in the house or outside in the garden or pool."

"I have been using and testing wireless transmission speakers for over twenty years in all price ranges. Overpriced and disappointing are the terms that come first to mind. The search is over. Zona is here. Try them for 30 days. You will decide to keep these little speakers with a big sound and a huge range of uses."

Digital Trends "Editors' Choice" Award Given to Aperion’s Verus Forte Tower System

Professional Review Verus Forte Tower Speaker March, 2011

"9 out of 10. Due to their excellent musicality, large sound in a small footprint and high value, the Verus Forte Towers earn our Editor's Choice Award."

"The sonic character of the Forte tower is remarkably big for a speaker of any size, let alone one as small as this."

"The soundstage and imaging properties of the speakers are both pleasing. The Forte towers have the sort of pinpoint center imaging that will get you out of your chair to see if the center channel is on when it shouldn’t be. Even when not "toed in", the speakers had a way of placing vocals in the very center of the room. The soundstage exhibited a fair amount of depth, but the sound didn’t seem to stretch out beyond the edge of the speakers as much as we’d expected. Still, every inch between them was filled out with some portion of our recording's presentation. This pair of speakers didn't really "disappear into the room"- they do call some attention to themselves, but in an engaging sort of "check me out" fashion that hits your ears with lots of nuances and texture."

"Aperion’s Verus Forte speakers, particularly the floor-standing tower model, offer an appreciable improvement over the company's already solid Intimus offerings. The differences between the two lines is most obvious in the high frequency section where the tweeter's higher-power handling and lower frequency capabilities serve to make the speakers sound articulate, accurate and detailed enough to satisfy just about any critical listener. Their more stylistic cabinets add to the speaker’s refinement and make a pleasant statement in a room. At $495.00 each, the Verus Forte Tower represents a very solid value, if a bit more expensive than the company’s Intimus line. We think these speakers will appeal to budget-audiophiles who want a speaker that challenges the law of diminishing returns by offering an incredibly refined, full bodied sound in an attractive package under the $1k price point. Add to the towers a very capable center channel and surrounds and you've got a surround speaker system that will most certainly be the envy of your friends and neighbors."

GoodSound! "Great Buy" Award for the Aperion Verus Grand Tower Speakers

Professional Review Verus Grand Tower Speaker March, 2011

"...I can’t imagine being more impressed with an audio product than I was with the Verus Grand Tower. Aperion Audio has ticked off all the areas you'd want ticked off by a floorstanding loudspeaker: clean, textured, articulate, full-range sound; solid build quality and a beautiful finish; nice touches such as dual sets of binding posts and magnetically attached grilles; and a price well under $2000/pair.

Reviewers sometimes like to speak of gateway products -- components that give consumers a taste of the high end, and that hopefully will make them want to further explore our hobby by buying more expensive products that perform even better. Well, Aperion’s Verus Grand Tower is no mere gateway product. It ushers you inside, sits you down at the table, and invites you to participate fully in the music. This speaker is a tremendous performer and an even better value. I just love it. I think you would, too."

The Chicago Tribune Reviews the Aperion Zona Surround Speaker System

Professional Review Aperion Zona® Wireless Speaker System March, 2011

"Excellent sound, well-built, no wiring between speakers, no dropouts."

"Moving the Zonas front and center as stereo speakers reveals their true sonic colors. They don't go deep, but their gorgeous midrange is mostly wasted as surround speakers. Strip away the amplifiers and the wireless technology, and these $499 Zonas could stand on their own among home entertainment's better traditional pint-size speakers in the $200 to $250 category. That's like saying Aperion has built, even overbuilt, extraordinary wireless surround speakers. No strings attached."

The New York Times reviews our Zona Wireless Speakers

Professional Review Aperion Zona® Wireless Speaker System March, 2011

"There’s no place to attach speaker wires even if you wanted to. Instead, each speaker needs only to plug into a wall outlet. Plug each one in, then turn on the transmitter, and the speakers pipe fantastic, rich sound from your home theater."
