Aperion DST Dual Firing Air Motion Transformer Ribbon Super Tweeter Pair
With this DST Super Tweeter, you’ll be able to hear every detail of your music clearly and beautifully, making it feel like you’re enveloped in the sound!
You may be familiar with the popular Planar PST and Aluminum Ribbon Super Tweeters RST, but our APERION Dual AMT DST Super tweeter delivers quick dynamics and an ultra-clear high frequency transient response.The Dual Firing DST Super Tweeter can be suitably matched with any speaker whose sensitivity is between 96 dB and 87 dB.
The actual size of the driver is 3.19 x 1.34 inches (81mm x 34mm). The thickness of the Kapton is 12.5 μm, the Aluminum is 20 μm, with a total thickness of 44 μm. Sensitivity was tested using 2.83v @ 1 meter. The crossover design is Butterworth. Using FR4 PCB board, and Aperion custom capacitors. The internal cables are high purity copper to minimize resistance.
It is a single ribbon, with dual firing open baffle. The driving force of this transducer is evenly distributed over the entire vibrating element.
This is not an ordinary tweeter
Traditional tweeters produce sound by pushing air using a diaphragm. In contrast, the Air Motion Transformer (AMT) compresses and expels air through a folded diaphragm, functioning like an "air accelerator." Since the airflow speed greatly exceeds the diaphragm's movement, the AMT offers remarkable sensitivity, an impressive transient response, and extremely low distortion.
For many audiophiles, a high-quality AMT tweeter combines the finesse of a ribbon tweeter, the dynamic impact of a compression driver, and the clarity of an electrostatic speaker. After decades of development, the AMT has firmly established itself as one of the most renowned tweeter technologies in modern high-end loudspeakers and professional monitoring systems.
While a ribbon tweeter "pushes" air, the AMT "jets" it. This fundamental difference is why it can deliver such an extraordinary sense of speed and airiness.
Pre-Purchase Information
1. Super tweeters are designed to work alongside your existing speakers; do not connect them directly to your audio source or amplifier.
2. Keep in mind that a super tweeter's output volume is usually low. If a super tweeter sounds excessively loud, it's typically a sign of poor quality.
3. Adding a super tweeter doesn't replace your current tweeter; please do not have that expectation.
4. While a super tweeter can enhance the overall sound experience, it does not guarantee "perfect" high-frequency sound. Instead, it enhances the sense of spaciousness and compensates for the high-frequency limitations of your original speakers, resulting in a better listening experience.
5. Make sure the sensitivity of the super tweeter is higher than that of your existing speakers. For example, if your horn-tweeter speakers have a sensitivity exceeding 100dB, adding a super tweeter with a sensitivity of 90dB or less wouldn't be effective.
6. The key to using super tweeters lies in experimentation and enjoyment. If you're not a serious audiophile or don't have the time to fine-tune settings, please think carefully about your purchase; achieving the best sound for your particular setup requires time and adjustments. And we recommend a minimum of 20~ hours of listening to allow your ears to adjust to the added high frequencies as well as fine tuning the adjustments.
7. Listening experiences are highly personal; it's completely normal for some individuals to notice a massive difference while others may only notice a small or no difference at all.

Where should it be placed?

5-point Crossover + OFF
Select from 8, 10, 12, 14, or 16 kHz to adjust the Super Tweeter floor for optimal integration with your speaker system. When set to "OFF," the Super Tweeter will be inactive. Using the Theatrus T63S's as an example, and it's 91dB Sensitivity, to match this take a look at the chart on the left, where you can see the Crossover and Treble Adjust is set to 8k Hz and -5dB, giving you 91dB output Sensitivity, your other options include 10 kHz and -4dB, 12kHz and -3dB, 14 kHz and -2dB, or 16 kHz and -1dB, though we highly recommend you to try every setting and see what works best for your ears.
Easy Connection
Aperion Audio Super Tweeters are external devices that connect in parallel to the binding posts of your passive speakers—just ensure that you connect positive to positive and negative to negative. The key is to experiment; avoid listening too closely. 5-point Crossover + OFF
Choose between 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 kHz to set the Super Tweeter floor for the perfect blend with your speaker. The "OFF" position renders the Super Tweeter inert. The lowest setting, 8 kHz, will provide the most overlap with your existing tweeter while the highest setting, 16 kHz, will have minimal overlap, picking up at the top-end of the range. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Can only dogs and cats hear it?
It is well known that the human hearing range is 20 Hz to 20 kHz; in reality, many older adults cannot even hear frequencies above 15 kHz. Since the human ear cannot perceive frequencies exceeding 20 kHz, why is there a need for "super-tweeters" that reach 40 kHz? Consequently, many people online claim that such sounds are audible only to cats and dogs.
This is a common misconception. When we design super-tweeters capable of reaching 40 kHz, the goal is not to enable you to hear 40 kHz itself, but rather to enhance the quality of the sound within the audible range (up to 20 kHz).
To take a simple example, suppose there are two tweeters:
A: Frequency response limit of 20 kHz
B: Frequency response limit of 40 kHz
If both are made to reproduce a 15 kHz sound:
A is already approaching its frequency response limit:
- The diaphragm begins to exhibit breakup (modal vibration)
- Phase distortion increases
- Distortion levels rise
B is operating at only half its capacity, so:
- Its sound is more linear
- Distortion is lower
- Transient response is better
It is akin to comparing two cars: one with an engine capable of 200 km/h and another of 400 km/h. When both are driven at 100 km/h, the latter operates with noticeably greater ease and composure.

Amazing experience, very fast delivery!
Connected the DST Dual Firing AMT Super Tweeters to my Wilson Audio WATT Puppy speakers with McIntosh tube preamp and 300 watt Mac amp and WOW--the intricate detail in the delicate top end of voices and guitar strings and percussion is breathtaking. The Wilson's tweeter is already very accurate in the high end, but the Aperion DST adds several more layers of musical detail that I didn't even know was missing. The good news is that while the titanium tweeters in the Wilson's can be a bit fatiguing, the beautiful comfortable high-end layers from the super tweeters took that "edge" off and just sit back and bask in the beauty of the music. Just a wonderful experience.
Great product!
I had no idea YouTube videos can sound so good. First of all, kudos to the TGK Trio. These accomplished jazzmen from Japan can really swing. The clarity and presence of the female vocals tricked me to think, even for only a few seconds, I was hearing a live performance. The dynamic intensity of the piano was startling in its realism. Listen through your stereo or headphones. Enjoy!
the build quality I thought was great
Smooth transaction like normal, very nice build wires they look nice and they sound really great especially with the Aarion tweeters. I’m very happy… Seem like the tweezers themselves have more fine. Sound to them now.
The AMT super tweeters have added the extra treble extension I was looking for. They did require a bit of experimentation to get them to sound right. I might have been experiencing some comb filtering before finding the right placement. My son made two platforms with a 3d printer to place the super tweeters on top of my Martin Logan Ascent speakers. I’m not sure how the speaker system measures in room, but the system sounds great. Having old DCM timeframe speakers I was going to sell, since they were unused for many years, I saw the AMT ST. WOW, along with the Yamaha sub I was approaching HIFi. Not there yet. I had heard of FLAC files, but my old Sony BRay could not play them off a USB stick. MP3 yes. So I researched and wound up buying a Audiolab D9. It has everything in one box for $1200. ( Shout out for HiFi Heaven A+). State of the art DAC, they are at this for 30+ years now, every kind of I/O connection you could want, a clean Pre-amp, can play off a USB stick, onboard hardware for upsampling (on or off), 5 filters, no EQ (not needed). I know you can buy a DAC player/streamer for 200-300 and they may be OK. Up to $1000 its much better. At 1200 the D9 is remarkable, sound is pure HiFi musicality. Audiolab put a lot into this unit including a custom linear power supply, and it runs pretty warm/hot. My Adcom 550 amp may be a weak link. The Sony is used as a transport only, and can pass both CD's and Flac files via CoAx to the D9. So getting back to the AMT supertweets, they are incredible, still revolutionary many years after Dr. Heil invented them. Asperion has tamed the technology to refine it and make it musical. The first AMT tweets I heard 50 years ago were crazy sounding but not musical, too brash and edgy, well ugly even. If you want to upgrade your system and can afford them, just buy them, They are just that good. Hopefully your rig can give them a high fidelity signal to work with.
Well honestly I don't know if these things are really doing anything... when I put my ear right up to them I can hear a very faint sound coming from them, but regardless of how I have the volume or crossover set they barley have any volume.. I'm not sure If it's enhancing my speakers or not, but I like to believe it is even if it's only psychosomatic.
Well when I was in college another student in my dorm asked to borrow my turntable, as he had bought speakers and needed a source (pre CD days circa 1975 or so). Well I lent him my Phillips and he invited me to listen to his system. His new speakers were the original Heil AMT's. Looked like a sub with a grill on top. Inside the grill was a massive V shaped structure , with the V facing toward listener. Each side of the V had cotter pin like metal pins coming out of the central post the inside of the V extending out to form the V. Maybe 20 pins per side. To visualize this put your arms outward in front of you and make your fingertips touch, you V. The whole thing had a massive magnet behind it. Well I never heard anything like it. If somebody was ringing a bell near your head you knew it was live, or if they were jiggling a set of keys in a room you knew they were in the room. Same with the AMT's startling sound. Well the speakers were not so refined in their spectrum, treble overkill but still amazing. Well Asperian took a good idea and refined it,or tuned it and you get to fine tune it. For years I didnt listen to music but had a large CD collection. My speakers are DCM time frames 500. Not terrible, but nice sound stage, highs and lows so so. So I got a Yamaha sub 30 years ago and that was OK. To fix the high end was not as easy until I got the AMT's, increbible. You will hear detail you never heard before with clarity and open sound stage, not point source. Not cheap but if your speakers have decent mids and maybe a sub, this addition will be better then buying 1000 new speakers. To those who say their hearing is limited high frecuency so why go super T, they dont understand how sound is processed in the brain. Ray W.

Makes the highs sing higher!
Brought my Old McIntosh LS360 speakers back to life....As the capacitors age in the speaker crossovers highs diminish. The ability to fine tune the Super tweeters to how you like them makes this a no brainer if you want to upgrade the sound spectrom from your speakers.
Tweeter seems to be malfunctioning. I can not detect any change in gain from zero to maximum gain.

Nice addition to Rogers LS3/5A Well constructed. With crossover and level controls was able to find an optimum setting that “breaths” the highs with my Rogers LS3/5A .

Aperion. There is no substitute. Aperion, unfortunately not well known in the speaker world, produces the BEST line of speakers (in their price point) out there. I have a 7.2.6 Atmos set up with 3 super tweeters for the front towers and the center channel that express every nuanced note. From the highest pitch to thunderous bass that rattles my windows. These speakers are INCREDIBLE! I've invested roughly $6,000 on a home theater that makes all our friends jealous. We practically never go to the movies anymore. Our living room is a theater. And believe it or not, my wife approved every step of the way. If I EVER buy another set of speakers they will have a logo with 3 vertical lines, Aperion.

I’m still experimenting with settings but I love what it has contributed to my system. The sound has a definite airiness and sparkle that wasn’t represented before the super tweeters were added. The best thing about the Aperion super-tweeters is their adjustability, both in terms of low-cut and gain. It becomes very easy to blend them in with an existing speaker set-up. I put mine on top of an old pair of Snell JIIs, whose tweeters still work reasonably well, but don't provide quite enough of a top end. The Aperion super-tweeters have solved that problem perfectly.
